Join Embracing Neurodiversity: A Holistic Approach to Dual Diagnosis (IDD/MHA) Through Integrated Care at Rock Creek Foundation and Affiliated Sante Group with Najla Wortham and Michelle Grigsby-Hackett, Tue Apr 15, 2025, 11:00 - 11:25 AM, 307B –-- Since 1973, Rock Creek Foundation (RCF) has pioneered an integrated care model that embraces the concept of neurodiversity, focusing on individuals with dual diagnoses of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Mental Health Disorders (MHA). This presentation will explore RCF’s approach to supporting neurodivergent individuals by providing comprehensive services that address both developmental and psychiatric needs. Challenging traditional models that often pathologize neurological differences, RCF’s programming highlights the strengths and potential of neurodivergent individuals while ensuring their mental health needs are met with specialized care. In line with the conference theme "By Us and For Us: Legacy and Future of Our Movement," this session will discuss how RCF’s integrated services promote autonomy, self-advocacy, and community inclusion. We will examine the barriers that have historically excluded individuals with dual diagnoses from accessing necessary psychiatric rehabilitation services, and how RCF has reimagined systems to fill these gaps. Attendees will gain insight into how intersectionality—considering factors such as race, gender, and socioeconomic status—plays a critical role in creating inclusive environments that honor neurodivergent identities. --- 40th Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability Tuesday, April 15 - Wednesday, April 16, 2024, HST Honolulu, Hawai?i [in-person with virtual options] #PacRim2025 is organized by the Center on Disability Studies, University of Hawaii at Manoa.
