“We run this precinct like the mafia.” That’s what senior NYPD officials told Lt. Emelio C. Rodriques when he refused to ignore political favoritism, fraudulent overtime, and sexual misconduct tied to the Commissioner’s inner circle. Rodriques followed the law. NYPD retaliated. Now he’s fighting back—with a Verified Complaint exposing systemic discrimination, institutional corruption, and retaliation for protected activity. This case is not just about one officer. It’s about what happens when integrity threatens power. BREAKING: A powerful civil rights lawsuit filed by NYPD recruit Emilio Andino alleges racial harassment, sexualized abuse, and retaliation—simply for being related to whistleblower Lt. Quatisha Epps, who exposed misconduct by former Chief Jeffrey Maddrey. Filed in the NY County Supreme Court by civil rights attorney Eric Sanders, the case reveals how institutional loyalty and silence protected misconduct while punishing the innocent. Allegations include: • Racial slurs & hostile training environment • Sexualized verbal abuse involving a minor • Biased investigations and coerced resignation • Retaliation stretching across 3 commissioners— Caban, Donlon, Tisch The lawsuit is a stark indictment of NYPD’s leadership culture under Mayor Eric Adams—where retaliation outlasts reform. https://lnkd.in/eD7xrahj #CivilRights #NYPD #JeffreyMaddrey #PoliceAccountability #Retaliation #EmploymentLaw #WhistleblowerProtection #QualifiedImmunity #SystemicRacism #NewYorkLaw #EEOC #HostileWorkEnvironment #TheSandersFirmPC

Brooklyn Woman Files Federal Lawsuit Alleging NYPD Racism, Excessive Force, and Dehumanizing Arrest On June 11, 2024, Brooklyn resident Keyanna Moody—a Black mother and lawful e-bike rider—was violently tackled, tased, called names and ordered to be “put in a cage” by NYPD officers after buying cotton candy for her daughter. What began as a peaceful family ride ended in bloodied knees, racial slurs, and a night in custody, without charges, without medical care, and the return of her property. We have filed a federal lawsuit under the First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendments, 42 U.S.C. § 1983, and the New York City Human Rights Law. This case is about more than one woman—it exposes systemic rot, unchecked violence, and racially targeted abuse within the NYPD. Enough is enough. The badge is not a license to brutalize. BREAKING: NYPD DRUG TESTING PROGRAM CHALLENGED FOR RACIAL BIAS AND SHIELDING INSIDERS A newly filed federal EEOC Charge exposes deep flaws in the NYPD’s so-called “random” drug testing program. The complaint alleges that the Department’s reliance on radioimmunoassay of hair (RIAH)—a scientifically contested method—has disproportionately harmed Black and Latino officers while shielding insiders with political connections. The case asserts violations of: • Title VII (Race/National Origin Discrimination, Hostile Work Environment, Retaliation) • 42 U.S.C. § 1983 (Equal Protection, First Amendment Retaliation, Political Affiliation Discrimination) • NYSHRL, NYCHRL, and New York’s Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act • NY Labor Law § 740 and Civil Service Law § 75-b (Whistleblower Protections) The testing method at the heart of this controversy—RIAH—has never been approved by SAMHSA due to its racial bias, environmental contamination risks, and lack of confirmatory safeguards. “What we see here is not mere oversight—it’s institutional insensitivity. The NYPD has allowed flawed science and opaque processes to dictate discipline without regard for fairness, accuracy, or humanity. Officers of color are disproportionately harmed, yes—but this regime endangers all officers, regardless of race. It’s a system cloaked in the false legitimacy of ‘randomness,’ while political insiders are protected and outsiders are punished. That’s not justice—it’s structural betrayal.” Read the EEOC Charge of Discrimination and press release: https://lnkd.in/exBHrGmp #CivilRights #NYPD #EmploymentDiscrimination #DrugTestingBias #TitleVII #Whistleblower #Retaliation #EqualProtection #PoliceAccountability #SystemicDiscrimination #NYCHRL #NYSHRL #HairTesting #EEOC #BlackLivesMatter #PublicSafetyReform #WorkplaceJustice #EricSanders #TheSandersFirmPC

[Eric Sanders, a lawyer who frequently sues the department on behalf of officers, said nothing has changed under Tisch's leadership. "There are lots of cases that never get official charges, they get resolved without even going into the trial room,” he said. “There's cases that are not making it to the police commissioner's office because people are not being formally charged.”] NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch cracks down on police misconduct in break from predecessors https://lnkd.in/e8iQNeQd

Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit Filed Against NYPD A Bronx man left with a fractured jaw and a dismissed criminal charge is now fighting back. In Ryan v. City of New York, our client alleges he was: • Assaulted while handcuffed • Targeted for being “a Black kid driving a Mercedes” • Issued fabricated summonses after the fact • Denied medical care and due process The complaint details racial profiling, retaliation, and deliberate indifference by NYPD officers, with direct quotes, medical records, and a judicial dismissal already on record. We are demanding accountability—not just civil remedies, but criminal investigation. This is not an isolated incident. This is a window into systemic failure. Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit Filed Against NYPD, Mayor Adams, and Top Officials On December 7, 2024, four unarmed Black men were subjected to a violent, racially motivated traffic stop by NYPD officers from the 114th Precinct. The encounter—purportedly over “tinted windows”—escalated into an assault, fabricated charges, and prolonged detention without probable cause. Despite reviewing body-worn camera footage and acknowledging that the plaintiffs had committed no crime, Mayor Eric Adams, Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, and Chief Miguel Iglesias refused to discipline the officers, void the arrests, or initiate corrective action. We allege violations of the First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendments and claims under the New York City Human Rights Law. This case concerns more than individual misconduct—it’s about the institutional failure to act when the facts are clear and justice demands intervention. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages, declaratory relief, and structural accountability under Monell v. Department of Social Services. 🔍 Investigations Should Serve Justice, Not Protect Institutions. In many cases, investigations—whether in HR or law enforcement—fail to protect the vulnerable and instead reinforce institutional power. Victims of workplace harassment and sexual violence are often left retraumatized, their experiences dismissed or questioned. Investigators’ biases, institutional protectionism, and a lack of trauma-informed approaches all contribute to this failure. It’s time for a fundamental shift. We must move from risk management to truth-seeking, from protecting institutions to safeguarding the people they are meant to serve. Survivors’ voices must be validated, and their experiences should be the centerpiece of any investigation. 🔑 Key Change: Independent third-party investigators, trauma-informed practices, and legal reforms are essential for achieving true accountability and healing. It's not just about liability—it’s about justice for those who need it most. 💡 Read my latest thought piece where I discuss how we can create a survivor-centered investigative model that prioritizes empathy, fairness, and real reform. https://lnkd.in/eQNrncdj #WorkplaceJustice #SurvivorCentered #Investigations #InstitutionalReform #TraumaInformed #EqualJustice #Accountability #CivilRights #HRinvestigations #LegalReform

The Sum of Indignities Is the Harm Natasha Knox’s story isn’t about a single insult. It’s about the accumulation of daily indignities that courts and investigators still fail to see. In Knox v. CRC Management Co., the Second Circuit reversed summary judgment—but the real story is the quiet, pervasive harm that nearly went unrecognized. The slurs. The silence. The ignored requests. The termination. Courts still ask: “Was it severe enough?” But discrimination is often not spectacular. It’s habitual. In Muldrow, the Supreme Court reminded us that harm does not need to be dramatic to be actionable. In Knox, we see why that shift matters—because hostile environments don’t begin with a blow. They build through disbelief. 📝 New Thought Piece: The Sum of Indignities: Rethinking Hostile Work Environment Through Knox 📖 Read the full post: https://lnkd.in/ezB4Bu77 #CivilRights #EmploymentLaw #HostileWorkEnvironment #DiscriminationLaw #Muldrow #KnoxCase #TitleVII #JudicialBias #WorkplaceEquity #RacialJustice #Microaggressions #LegalCommentary #SystemicBias #InstitutionalBetrayal #Intersectionality
