Why The Rosie Network Supports Wreaths Across America- I am the proud daughter of a World War II veteran—yes, WWII! My dad rarely spoke about his time in the Army, and I never truly understood what serving was like for him. Although he lived many years after his service, his headstone simply reads, “Private Lewis Andrew McCrae, U.S. Army.” His gravesite is quietly nestled, overlooking the Delaware Bay in my hometown of Lewes. When I visited home during the holidays, there was always a wreath on his grave, along with those of other veterans. I never knew who placed them, but it always made me feel that someone cared, that his service mattered. I first learned about Wreaths Across America through my husband’s military service. While living in a military town in North Carolina, I saw an opportunity to volunteer to lay wreaths on the graves of service members and decided to participate. Since then, it has become a family tradition to volunteer each year, laying wreaths to honor service members. We also donate wreaths annually, wanting to ensure as many veterans as possible are remembered. It’s our way of showing that their service mattered and that their families are not alone.
