Food is fuel! ?? When we give children proper nutrition, they’re more active and perform better in school. When children are given the tools to succeed, they’re able to break the cycle of generational poverty, improving their health, education, and overall well-being. Since 2020, we have reached nearly 118 million students globally with nutritious school meals. Yes, meals can improve academic performance; but they can also improve attendance and quality of life for students, impacting life beyond the classroom. With plans to enhance diets worldwide by promoting fortified whole grain production and consumption –particularly in schools– we are determined to enable children to unlock their full potential. 152 million children face crisis levels of hunger without access to nutritious food. School meals can unlock a litany of benefits — including performing better in school, improving their health, and increasing access to opportunity. To deliver more climate-resilient school meals to millions of children, The Rockefeller Foundation joined the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty - a powerful, collective effort to address food insecurity worldwide. As we head into #N4GParis this week, this commitment couldn’t come at a more critical time. Millions of children around the world rely on school meals not just for nutrition but for their health, education, and opportunity. Scaling up school meal programs requires bold leadership and collaborative action. That’s why partnerships like the Global Alliance are essential - no single organization or government can solve this alone. Through school meal programs we can: ?? Increase demand for nutritious food ?? Support local farmers ?? Encourage regenerative agricultural practices A recent report from the World Food Programme found that school meal programs around the world served more than 418 million children in 2022, demonstrating how far-reaching and effective these programs can be. At this week’s #N4GParis, The Rockefeller Foundation will be working with partners to share the benefits and opportunities of regenerative, locally-grown school meals. ???? Good nutrition leads to better health outcomes - but for many Americans, especially in high-risk communities like Veterans, accessing affordable, nutritious meals remains a challenge. President Rajiv J. Shah and VP of Food Initiative Devon Klatell spoke with Forbes reporter Daphne Ewing-Chow about how the Foundation is working to change that. The goal? Scaling up #FoodIsMedicine (FIM) programs to ensure Veterans facing chronic conditions or food insecurity get the nutrition-based healthcare they deserve. The impact is real. Veterans are making significant improvements in their health, gaining valuable nutrition education, and reducing healthcare costs. Veterans like Herman Johnson, a U.S. Army Veteran from Houston know firsthand how life-changing Food is Medicine solutions can be. FIM programs are transforming healthcare, cutting costs, and saving lives. And for many Veterans, it’s already making a difference. ??Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/eMQFYaMF

Rosaline Wanjiru Gitau graduated high school as a C-student—not because she wasn’t capable of high marks, but because she often went without food. School meal programs have the power to give every child the foundation they need to thrive. Next week, at #N4GParis, let’s put nutrition at the heart of sustainable development and make the fight against malnutrition a global priority. Because school meals are more than just food on a plate—they can improve livelihoods for farmers, support sustainable food systems, and create a pathway to opportunity for the most vulnerable. Together, we can make home-grown, climate-resilient school meals universal and build a healthier future for every child.?? Read about her story: https://lnkd.in/ewWUkFX4
