Investing in regenerative agriculture means investing in a future where our food systems are resilient, our farmers thrive, and our planet heals.? Conversations this week at #AFSForum2024 in #Kigali have highlighted that this requires collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to rethinking how we finance agriculture on the African continent and beyond. Here’s what our global partners, John Robert Okware and Patrick Holden had to say about the transformative potential of financing regenerative agriculture:

Financing for #regenerativeagriculture is still in its early stages in many regions, but there are actionable steps that can be taken to deliver a viable market. In our ‘Financing for Regenerative Agriculture’ report in partnership with Pollination, we introduce the Market Maturity Curve, a framework that allows practitioners to identify where they are on this journey. ?? We have mapped the types of capital practitioners should seek, depending on how far along the curve they are. ?? As it stands, the regenerative agriculture market is currently moving from Phase 2 ‘Early scale initiatives’ to Phase 3 ’Unlocking progressive commercial capital’. The Fortified Whole Grain Alliance, supported by The Rockefeller Foundation, announces a landmark alliance dedicated to tackling global malnutrition and promoting sustainable food systems. The launch marks a significant step forward in advancing people’s health and fostering a more resilient planet. The alliance aims to advance the transition to fortified whole grains for 10 million people across five countries. Fortified whole grains offer 6x more nutritional value than their refined counterparts. They’re also good for the planet ??and require less water, land, fertilizer, and pesticides. This week, The Rockefeller Foundation is proud to join leaders at the Africa Food Systems Forum in Kigali highlighting the critical role of school meals in sustainable food systems. School meals can transform children’s lives and sustain the planet – for example transitioning to fortified whole grains could improve nutrition for billions of people without increasing production costs.??? ?
