February was a busy month for the Ladies and Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C.! Our Community Footprints programming is a vital part of what makes us proud to be The Ritz-Carlton. Here at The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C., we believe it is our responsibility to be a force for good in the community we operate in. In the spirit of volunteerism, our Ladies and Gentlemen joined Destination DC for a lively afternoon of volleyball in support of the American Experience Foundation. Thank you to Destination D.C. for the opportunity to contribute to AEF’s mission of cultivating the next generation of hospitality leaders through inspirational travel experiences and educational opportunities. To round out a month of athleticism, our Ladies and Gentlemen also had the privilege of representing our team during Cycle for Survival with Equinox Sports Club, which raises funds for the important work done by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. We were ecstatic to participate in this meaningful event and are grateful for our wonderful partners at Equinox Sports Club, Washington, D.C. The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C. is excited to welcome Chef Gavin Pera as our new Executive Chef. Gavin joins us from his most recent role as Executive Chef at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta. His career also includes leadership positions as Executive Chef at Playa Largo Resort & Spa and Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, as well as valuable experiences across several Ritz-Carlton properties, including The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale, The Ritz-Carlton South Beach, and The Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas. A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Miami, Gavin has a passion for the culinary arts and brings a wealth of expertise to our team.? Kate most recently served as Director of Events & Conference Services at the Salamander DC Hotel. Prior to that, she held positions of Assistant Director and Senior Conference Manager at the Salamander DC Hotel. Her extensive experience also includes roles at The Watergate Hotel, Georgetown Events, JRINK, and POLITICO. A graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelor of Arts, Kate brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to her new role. This week, we will begin by proudly introducing our very own General Manager, Olivier Lau. Olivier Lau is an award-winning hospitality professional and visionary leader with a passion for driving cultural excellence and transforming high-potential staff into outstanding leaders. With nearly two decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Olivier has held numerous leadership roles across multiple prestigious brands and regions. Beginning his career with Marriott as a Breakfast Server at the Renaissance Brussels Hotel, Olivier's career has spanned multiple disciplines and taken him around the world. Between his early days as a Breakfast Server and his current role as General Manager, Olivier has worn many hats. Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C., Olivier served as the General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner; the General Manager of the JW Marriott New Orleans; and the Director of Operations of the JW Marriott Minneapolis Mall of America. Olivier's career is marked by his strategic vision and people-first leadership style, which have been instrumental in elevating the performance and reputation of the properties he has managed. His international experience across various brands and regions has equipped him with a diverse and global perspective, enhancing his ability to connect with guests and employees from all backgrounds. When inquired about his preferred Gold Standard, Olivier expressed that the Employee Promise holds a special place in his heart. He stated, “As General Manager, it is my role to be the guardian of the culture and provide an environment of trust, honesty, and integrity.
