Clean energy and transportation investment in the United States continued its record-setting growth in Q3 of 2024, reaching a new high of $71 billion. This continues a nearly unbroken quarter-on-quarter growth trend over the past three years, and marks a 12% increase in Q3 of 2024 from the same period in 2023. Clean investment accounted for 5% of total US private investment in structures, equipment, and durable consumer goods in the United States, compared to 4.5% in Q3 2023. German FDI made up 57% of total EU investments in China in the first half of 2024, 62% in 2023, and a record 71% in 2022. This was driven by auto-related FDI, which has accounted for roughly half of all EU investment in China since 2022.

Completed EU greenfield investment in China rebounded over the past year to reach a record high of €3.6 billion in the second quarter of 2024, driven mostly by German automakers. The investments are deepening dependency on China for some of Germany's largest companies, all while Brussels and Berlin are pursuing de-risking policies.
