“Our research shows that one of the biggest drivers of these mortgage denial gaps is debt,” Emily Dowdall, our President of Policy Solutions, explained. “We know that Black families are less likely to have savings as a result of some historical factors, and therefore Black college graduates have more student loan debt than their White counterparts. That makes it really hard to qualify for a home loan to get that starter home.” Our findings highlight the need to address Debt-to-Income and Loan-to-Value ratios that exclude Black buyers, alongside addressing differential treatment that violates the Fair Housing Act. ?? We’re thrilled for the children who will laugh, play, and grow in this vibrant new space for years to come. In late October, Trinity AME Early Learning Center LLC celebrated the unveiling of its newly renovated playground, featuring a tricycle path, sandbox, turf, basketball court, and a new drainage system. The playground was named in honor of Theodora Bingham, the beloved former program director who served the center for over 30 years. This transformation was made possible through a PAACT (Promising All Atlanta Children Thrive) Repair and Renovation Grant, part of a collaboration between PAACT, the City of Atlanta, Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Reinvestment Fund, and LIIF. Lawrence Smith, Reinvestment Fund Program Manager for ECE in Atlanta, shared, “A childcare program’s facility is not simply utilitarian. It’s a partner in students’ formative experiences.”

?? 45 incredible food projects designed to increase food access in rural, urban, and Tribal communities nationwide have received a total of $5.8M in grants through the 2024 Healthy Food Financing Initiative (HFFI) Planning Grant Program. The grant awards will support developing or expanding food retail and food retail supply chain business models that will increase consumer access to healthy food in areas across the country with limited access to grocery stores.
