?? ?? Renewable #hydrogen and derivatives will be needed as industrial feedstocks and marine fuels on the path to achieving #climateneutrality. Agora Industry, The International Council on Clean Transportation?and Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) have examined where using hydrogen would be most effective to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. ??? This makes the upcoming decision by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) so important for the global H2 ramp-up: It will either provide much-needed demand for renewablehydrogen and derived fuels, or delay their use by promoting LNG and biomass in the early years. ?? Recent global energy scenarios predict that climate-neutral hydrogen will need to meet 5 to 14% of final energy consumption by 2050. The largest uses are expected in industry and long-haul air and sea transport. ?? ?? ?? ? ?? As H2 will be scarce for the foreseeable future, its use should be prioritised where it is most needed, while ensuring that the total emissions associated with its worldwide production decrease over time. A rapid scale-up of renewable H2 production and targeted use is key for climate neutrality. The ~60-page slide deck “Prioritising hydrogen for the most effective uses” was developed in collaboration with ICCT and RAP.
