We're pleased to highlight one of our own customers for Good News Tuesday: Moving Waters. Based in Houston, Texas, Moving Waters is a nonprofit organization that provides hot showers for the unhoused. At any given time, at least 3,200 people in the Houston area lack secure housing. We sat down with Keri Case, Manager and Operator of Moving Waters to discuss their impact and how The Receptionist for iPad helps them keep their processes streamlined. Belatedly celebrating #funatworkday, we're reflecting on our recent conversation with Acey Holmes of BoredLess. "We're taught around middle school that play is not important anymore." Acey discusses how the neurochemicals responsible for growth, learning, and improvement are directly related to play throughout our entire lives. There are many different ways "play" can manifest in an organization, and her goal is to help leaders find ways to connect with and inspire their employees. The Receptionist is deeply committed to corporate social responsibility. Every year, we hold a tournament where our employees fill out a bracket (yes, it does look like a March Madness bracket!) that includes 16 charities, mostly based in Colorado, all with different missions. The winner of each round gets a donation, and the winner receives the largest donation. This year, our winner was Food For Thought Denver. Serving 75 schools across the Denver Metro area, they strive to ensure each school-aged child has enough food to eat on the weekends. Many students in the area qualify for free or reduced-cost breakfast and lunch on school days, but not all those children are guaranteed meals when they aren't in school. This creates quite a lot of waste, so one city in Denmark decided to make it more sustainable for people to enjoy their morning coffee by incentivizing customers to return their reusable cups to stations around the city for a small refund. There's a lot of news out there, and it can be overwhelming to sift through it all to find the good in the world. In the spirit of focusing on the positive, we are dedicating our Tuesdays to finding and sharing good news! Our first Good News Tuesday post features Spencer of SB Mowing, a small business that helps people tame their unruly yards. After Spencer heard about an elderly disabled woman named Beth who was being fined by the city for not mowing her grass, he cleaned up her yard - for free - to help her avoid those fines. Because of the many comments and DMs he received from people wanting to know how they could help Beth, Spencer created a GoFundMe campaign for her. In just one day, over 21,000 people donated!
