The R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation have agreed a new partnership with Azteca Golf, which will see the Women’s Amateur Latin America (WALA) championship visit Mexico on two occasions as part of a five-year agreement. Azteca Golf is a project founded by Grupo Salinas responsible for all golf related efforts and initiatives to develop golf in Mexico and Latin America. As part of the partnership Mexico will host the WALA in 2025 for the first time after this week’s edition at Lima Golf Club in Peru and three previous stagings at Pilar Golf in Argentina. Children from the San Bartolo public course, a project designed to bring golf to more people, visited Lima Golf Club for the Women's Amateur Latin America championship this week. The course – supported by The R&A and the Peruvian Golf Federation – offers an accessible space to practice, but also has a golf school for children from low-income families, allowing new generations to play without economic barriers ??

Joanna Molina is an inspiration to the golfers competing this week at the Women's Amateur Latin America (WALA) championship in Peru ???? The 36-year-old is the greens superintendent at Lima Golf Club and is the only woman employed in such a role across Peru. She has worked hard across the last year to ensure the region’s leading amateur players enjoy a wonderful experience on the course in the heart of the nation’s capital. “This is my first really big event and I’m very excited for the week,” said Joanna, who has worked at Lima Golf Club for ten years after working her way through the ranks. “It’s an honour for me to see these players playing on the course I work on, especially in the 100th?year of Lima Golf Club.” Find out more about WALA here ?? https://lnkd.in/gV_AnfFX

Golf in Peru has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, driven by a combination of strategic efforts between the Peruvian Golf Federation and The R&A. Despite golf not traditionally being a mass sport in the country, there has been a notable increase in the number of golf courses, players with a Handicap Index and junior and women’s development programmes. We have agreed a new 11-year partnership with The Scottish Government and VisitScotland who will contribute a combined ￡11 million towards staging The Open, AIG Women’s Open and the Senior Open in Scotland between 2024-2034 ???????????????? The announcement coincides with the results of an independent study commissioned by The R&A which show that The 152nd?Open at Royal Troon generated over ￡303.3 million in total economic benefit for Scotland. Golf organisations in Dubai will come together to offer activities as part of this year’s Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC), a free month-long celebration of fitness and wellness ? In a pilot programme, the Golf Is Good x Dubai Fitness Challenge, supported by The R&A and Emirates Golf Federation, will offer 135 activities across nine venues throughout DFC from 26 October to 24 November 2024. Wenyi Ding has topped the inaugural Global Amateur Pathway Ranking, earning a DP World Tour exemption for the 2025 season. The Global Amateur Pathway – powered by WAGR? – was launched by the DP World Tour, PGA TOUR and The R&A to help the very best male amateur players take the next step in their careers.? The landmark initiative has created a pathway for non-collegiate amateur players on to the DP World Tour and partner Tours around the world. In all, the inaugural Global Amateur Pathway Ranking awarded professional membership to nine players across four partner Tours, with those players representing six different nationalities.
