About Major General Arnold L. Punaro, USMC (Ret.) Major General Punaro started his military, government, and business careers as a second lieutenant Marine infantry platoon commander in Vietnam. He concluded his service in uniform as a Major General after 35 years. During this time, he served in the U.S. Senate for 24 years, including 14 years as staff director of the Armed Services Committee for Sen. Sam Nunn. Punaro worked in industry as an executive vice president at SAIC for 14 years. He has served on and chaired numerous boards and commissions, including the Independent Commission on the National Guard and Reserve, the Secretary of Defense’s Reserve Forces Policy Board, the Defense Business Board, and the Independent Commission on the Security Forces of Iraq. He is serving his second term as chairman of the National Defense Industrial Association. Punaro is CEO of The Punaro Group, a Washington-based firm specializing in national security. He has been consistently recognized by Defense News as one of the 100 most influential individuals in U.S. Defense. He is the author of two books: "On War and Politics: The Battlefield Inside Washington’s Beltway" and "The Ever-Shrinking Fighting Force."

We are proud of our CEO, Arnold L. Punaro, for his 12-year service as the Chairman of the Secretary of Defense Reserve Forces Policy Board (RFPB).?Punaro chaired the RFPB from September 12, 2011 to December 9, 2023, when he decided to pass the reins to the highly capable?Lisa Disbrow.?During his tenure he served as chair for seven?Secretaries of Defense and 12 Undersecretaries of Defense for Personnel and Readiness. Punaro affirmed the role the Board plays in ensuring the National Guard and Reserves continues to be an essential element in securing our nation. Notably,?Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin attended the afternoon session of the December 6th?Board meeting and provided the following comment about Chairman Punaro’s service to the RC Community: “I’ve come to thank Chairman Punaro for what he’s done across his robust career.?He is an institution and knows more about his business than anyone I know. His experience is from scar tissue learning and one challenge after another.?I can’t even count the number of senior leaders he has prepared on reserve matters.?I can’t thank Chairman Punaro enough for his leadership of this board.”??
Today we say goodbye to a long-time member of the Punaro Group team, Irina Plaks. It’s a pleasure to work with anyone for as long as we have worked with Irina. She has played an integral role in the success of our organization for 9 years years, and she will surely be missed!
