  • Since 2020, Life Unites Us PA—in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, Penn State Harrisburg, and Shatterproof—has worked to destigmatize beliefs about substance use disorder across Pennsylvania. Life Unites Us is powered by real stories, including from people in recovery, their loved ones, and allies. Here are some examples of how Life Unites Us shares community members’ stories and educates the public about how addiction is a treatable medical condition.   • In the current information environment, determining which health narratives to respond to can be challenging. The Infodemiology Training Program—in partnership with?de Beaumont Foundation—teaches public health professionals how to use tools like decision matrices to help assess the risk level of a narrative. After taking this course, public health professionals can better analyze how impactful a narrative could be and when to respond to false or misleading information.     This January is the first national Substance Use Disorder Treatment Month, and PGP is proud to work on projects that help destigmatize addiction and fight the opioid crisis. Since 2020, Life Unites Us PA has been dedicated to ending the stigma around addiction. This campaign—in partnership with?Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs,?Penn State Harrisburg, and Shatterproof—is powered by the stories of people in recovery from substance use disorder and their loved ones and allies.   • The Infodemiology Training Program for Health Care empowers doctors and other providers as they navigate an increasingly complex health care space. The training includes a detailed module on communicating with patients, including tips and best practices.     There’s still time to nominate your organization or another for the Catalyst Awards. The Catalyst Awards will fund organizations that exemplify a strong capacity to integrate Community Health Workers in ways that bridge the gap and strengthen partnerships between health care and public health in communities. Awardees will propose locally based initiatives that can demonstrate significant progress in one year and support the establishment of sustainable relationships between health care and public health service providers.
