Some of you are still submitting -- our advice is to submit for schools you have completed (don't wait to be done with all of them!). Prioritize schools where you are competitive (not the reach schools) and where you have a chance of getting scholarship money. Schools are creating classes and you are close to the finish line. Financial worries and stresses are often top of mind for our clients. There are so many nuances with each individual's situation and while there are some best practices to consider, nothing beats 1:1 time with a financial professional who can help you figure out what's best for you when it comes to financing your legal education. We have found sometimes people are nervous about taking advantage of AccessLex Institute's 1:1 coaching - but no one ever regrets it. If this is you, don't be nervous - you will thank yourself later for the opportunity to gather information and make an informed decision. #LawSchool #LawSchoolFinances #PreLaw #FutureLawyer #PreLawCollaborative
I tend to post a lot about the presentations I do for AccessLex Institute at law school campuses throughout the northeast. This makes for great pictures, but I believe I make the deepest impact in the lives of students in the quieter, perhaps less flashy, one-on-one coaching service we offer on campus and via phone or Zoom. In September alone, I will have over 75 coaching appointments, with most of them happening on campuses where I have the privilege to build trust, rapport, and walk students through our additional free resources. My favorite and most frequent compliment is “Wow. I came in here really stressed and overwhelmed but now I feel much better and have next steps.” I get to answer questions students are embarrassed to ask in any other setting. Without judgement, this week I walked a student through how an ATM works. I’ve assisted with setting up a student budget (many times over), walked those heading to a career in public service through the loan forgiveness process, talked to big law track students about the most efficient strategies to pay off student loans while taking care of their overall financial health, and educated folks on retirement strategy. Serving in this capacity makes the long days on the road and away from home feel fully worth it. If you know a current law student struggling with managing their finances or student loan borrowing, please encourage them to sign up for an appointment through our free MAX by AccessLex personal finance program at https://lnkd.in/eFNcsC2y. For graduates trying to understand their student loan repayment options or navigating Public Service Loan Forgiveness, you can refer them to us at https://lnkd.in/eueR6kPh. It is truly an honor and a privilege to do this work.

Studying law offers a wide range of career opportunities and you will find JDs utilizing their degree across all fields of study. Often, you will find that multiple interests intersect so that you find yourself in a role that allows you to enjoy work while making an impact.? This rings true for Jordan Fischer, CIPP-E, CIPP-US, CIPM Partner at Constangy and Lecturer University of California, Berkeley.? She says: “In my current role, I have the opportunity to engage in a fast paced and dynamic area of the law. I am literally seeing the law being made in real time, and then working with clients to apply that law into their operations, many times for the first instance. It allows me to delve into both my legal and business backgrounds to provide robust and unique counsel to clients.”? #AdvicefromJDs #LawDegree #CareerBliss #FutureLawyer #PreLaw #CareerExploration

When asked what contributed to his success in law school this graduate of Suffolk University Law School talked about the support he received from other law students. He spoke about outlines and offered this advice: “Find a 2L or 3L who had the same professor for the same class and use their outline as a guide for your notes. Improve upon the outline and pass it onto the next student. Be generous with your knowledge and your time”. When Christine Falcone, LPC, ACS talks about networking with clients, they often think networking is using people for the sake of using people, but the true spirit of networking is what this JD offers: building a network, sharing information, paying it forward, and at the end of the day there is a web of support for not only you, but those around you. #AdvicefromJDs #PayitForward #PreLawCollaborative #FutureLawyer #Networking #BeGenerous
