RELATIVES! We have reached a MAJOR MILESTONE to Protect the ?esápa. ?? In just 37 days, we received over 1,900 comments to support the Pactola Mineral Withdrawal. This record-breaking number of comments moves the mineral withdrawal proposal from the Forest Service to Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland for final approval. ???????? Once the mineral withdrawal is approved, it will remove all future rights for mining, drilling, and exploration in the Pactola Reservoir and Upper Rapid Creek Watershed areas for UP TO 20 YEARS!! This could not have happened without YOUR support in submitting public comments. NDN Collective extends our gratitude to our relatives, allies, and comrades. Words from Our Relative Dawn Knickerbocker: Relatives, We are not shocked by Trump’s overwhelming resurgence. If we look deeply, we see the roots of this outcome: a society that values oil over water, money over people, violence over peace—and colonized ideals over Indigenous wisdom. There were no big reveals here. But now, we face a new reality—uncertain, heavy, and full of both challenges and responsibilities. As urban Natives, we know this path well. These colonial systems were never designed for us, yet here we are, carrying forward the work of protecting our Peoples, our lands, our ways of life, and our futures. Our strength lies in remembering who we are. We are the descendants of those who faced unimaginable odds and still moved forward—rooted in purpose, driven by knowledge, and connected to each other and Mother Earth herself. Now, we are called to do the same. We must stand for our kin: our Trans relatives, women seeking healthcare, our Palestinian siblings, and all who are silenced or targeted by systems and policies of oppression. We must protect our Indigenous communities, whose sovereignty and well-being are tied to the health of the earth and the strength of our Peoples. These struggles are interconnected, and they require all of us. This work will not be easy. It is exhausting and frustrating, and the weight of fear can be overwhelming. Take the time you need to process—whether through grief, rage, or rest—so you can move forward with clarity and strength. Let your community hold you up when the weight is too much and remember that our power has always been in how we show up for one another. Our ancestors built protections into our lifeways that have outlasted every attempt to erase them. Those teachings guide us still. Even in the face of policies and presidencies that try to divide or destroy, we know how to resist and rebuild. This is not just about survival; it is about tending to a future where we thrive on our own terms. The road ahead is not easy, but it is ours to walk. Together—with steady resolve and our community beside us—we will find our way, as we always have. Take care of each other. The work continues.
