After wounding five motorists with shots fired from his perch high above Interstate 75, the Kentucky highway shooter is still at large. While a motive is unknown, authorities have identified a suspect who sent threatening texts just before the incident. Presumed to be hiding somewhere in the Daniel Boone National Forest, he remains armed and dangerous. The bizarre nature of this incident serves as a reminder that violence is often unpredictable. With this assailant still on the loose, citizens in central Kentucky and surrounding states should remain vigilant and prepared to act. #preparedness #activeshooter https://lnkd.in/e8BAUfhN

As the year winds down, business leaders and community officials are on high alert. Religious holidays and landmark dates—like the one-year anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack—offer added opportunity and incentive for extremists looking to make a point. Just last week, a major plot targeting a Jewish center in Brooklyn, NY was foiled by law enforcement and security agencies. But while this threat was stopped, the potential for an incident remains. This holiday season every organization—particularly houses of worship and faith-based groups—should be aware of current and long-term threats, assess their own risks, and be ready to take action. In contrast to the choices of the shooter’s parents as well as the tepid policy response from Georgia lawmakers, there are some positive takeaways from the Apalachee High School shooting. In fact, local law enforcement officials are highlighting one: the use of new technology may have saved lives. Just days before the shooting teachers at the school began wearing ID badges equipped with an “active situation” alert button. The badges, produced by an Atlanta-based safety tech provider, allowed teachers to silently alert school resource officers as the situation unfolded. As a result, an automatic lockdown was triggered, and officers were able to respond quickly, sparing the community of further tragedy. It's yet another example of how organizations should explore every available option when structuring their security and preparedness plans.https://https://lnkd.in/edEDXzTW #preparedness #activeshootertraining #security #newtechnology
