Honoring Dr. Marshalyn Yeargin-Allsopp this #WomensHistoryMonth! 🌟 As the first African American woman to enroll in Emory School of Medicine, her journey is truly inspiring. Growing up in Greenville, South Carolina, and overcoming the loss of her mother at a young age, she demonstrated incredible resilience. Dr. Yeargin-Allsopp is also the great niece of the late Benjamin Mays. Her expertise in the epidemiology of autism laid the groundwork for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Autisim and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network. Beyond her professional achievements, she's deeply engaged in her community as a member of the Marietta-Roswell Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Dogwood City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and an Associate in the Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Married to Ralph, with three children and five grandchildren, her pioneering work in understanding autism and developmental conditions earned her the Service to America Medal for Career Achievement in 2018. Let's celebrate her groundbreaking contributions to medicine and her enduring legacy of service! #WomenInMedicine #Leadership #CommunityImpact #womenshistorymonth #localheroes
