Is this our collective future because it's our collective memory?
The Policy Lab was established in 2011 to help organizations and enterprises achieve better impact by design. Our founders worked together at the United Nations to address a fundamental challenge: How to achieve positive impact in diverse and sometimes unfamiliar local contexts. They found a key obstacle to addressing this challenge effectively stemmed from two things: a lack of strategic, impact-oriented local knowledge, and an absence of techniques for applying such information explicitly to the design of context-relevant solutions. In today’s world this challenge is faced across multiple sectors. We use the approaches developed by our founders, as well as others, to help our clients in private and public sectors create the impact they seek, both within their organizations, and in the contexts in which they work.

I have now completed another novel (after THE CURSE OF PIETRO HOUDINI) and I need a break from writing. I'm looking for work: ? As most know, I've been on the pioneering front-end of evidence-based policy design since 2008 when my colleagues and I introduced empirical cultural research methods to service design techniques at the UN. Since then I've worked with governments, NGOs and companies on being strategic design models; applying evidence-based design techniques to policy design challenges (most often in security, development, and humanitarian action); and I generally help teams move knowledge to action and land decisions in administrative systems. ? I live in Spain full-time and I continue to work as Director at The Policy Lab (founded in 2011, and the first of its kind …). ? Looking to work with teams trying to get things done!

The Policy Lab continues its close cooperation with the Somali Public Agenda; most recently on Scaling up Durable Solutions and Increasing Resilience for internal displaced Somalis. Together we build a strategic design framework (i.e. designing towards a goal, supported by a theory for change); utilized an evidence-based design approach (i.e. we designed from evidence, and reposed, adapted, or innovating proposed solutions on evidence) within a user-centered service design architecture to propose and develop solutions.
