FINDING HELP The next best thing to knowing the answer is knowing where to find it. Often this means knowing who to ask. I am not the right person to tell you how to make outstanding pineapple ice cream. I could have a go but trust me, neither of us would appreciate the results. When you need more information or guidance, it is good to know where to start. Google is great and YouTube adds moving pictures. However, I find myself becoming ever more suspicious of these tools and AI does not seem to help. I guess what we need is wisdom. Knowledge of how to and the wisdom of when to. The correct sequence makes all the difference to success. We need guides - fellow travellers who have been there and done that and definitely have the tee shirt and can generously offer help. I am grateful for the tools and even more grateful for the people who know how to use them and have shared their wisdom with me. #help #podcasting #learning

Last year, I had just completed Seth Godin’s altMBA course.?During that intense 30-day sprint, I had gained clarity that I wanted to produce one, if not two, specific podcasts.?While that was great, the question was, “how do I do this?”?One of my peers in the course recommended I look into Steve Heatherington ??'s 5-week course, The Podcast Workshop.?I researched the course, which included a terrific conversation with Steve, who was very engaging and open. I’ve never been one of those hyperbolic individuals, you know…the type that hawks shoe trees on QVC “that will change your LIFE!!!”?That said, I found the course a terrific fit for where I was in my development process.?The structure allowed me to learn the needed fundamentals, and, at the same time, focus in on the often neglected components, like distilling my description to it’s pure essence, and defining my audience avatar so that I could easily filter any and all ideas I had to determine if they truly made sense for my podcast.?All of this, in a cohort format that encouraged collaboration, the value of giving and receiving feedback, and accountability. So, did The Podcast Workshop change my life??Well, certainly more than any shoe tree I’ve ever owned.?But seriously, it helped crystalize my next steps, and I find myself, a year later, with one podcast in production, and a second in development.?I learned a lot of the nuts and bolts.?Perhaps more importantly, it reinforced that I don’t need to have everything perfected before moving forward (I could write a book on this subject), as well as getting the hell out of my own way (again, another book subject).
