    ?? Healthy Eating for a Busy Schedule When life gets busy, it can be hard to devote the proper time and energy to eating healthily. We know it’s important, but between planning, grocery shopping, cooking, dealing with leftovers –? despite a knowing feeling it’s hurting our wallets and our health, we end up eating out a lot more than we should. And don’t get us started on the cost of food delivery… ?? But don’t worry, there’s another way: meal planning! ?? When it comes to having a busy schedule, meal planning is a great way to circumvent a lot of the challenges that come with eating healthily and cooking for yourself. One study found meal planners to have a higher quality diet, more food variety, and lower odds of obesity! ?? So if you don’t know where to start, we’ve got some tips for you. ?? 1?? Have a planning day – Make sure to schedule a specific, recurring time to plan out your meals and make a grocery list. ?? Make a plan for every meal you want to cook until your next scheduled planning day, considering which days you’ll have more or less time to cook and prep and which days you can shop. This’ll help keep you consistent. 2?? Schedule a prep day – During a “prep day”, you’ll spend extra time preemptively cooking or preparing foods that you can quickly finish later during busier days of the week. Focus on foods that are extra time consuming to prepare, like chicken and fish or roasted vegetables. Make the most of this time by multitasking; dice some vegetables while something bakes in the oven. ?? 3?? Utilize leftovers – Oftentimes after cooking we’ll have leftovers, or – at the very least – leftover ingredients. Try to factor this into your planning; if you’re making a meal you know will have leftovers, make eating those leftovers one of your meals for the week. ?? The same goes for leftover ingredients – plan on using them in another dish! 4?? Be smart about storage – Try to optimize your storage techniques to make sure food doesn’t go to waste. Keep your oldest items at the front of the fridge, along with the most perishable ones like fresh fruits and vegetables. If you’re meal planning for lunch, make the most of your prep time by pre-packaging it in a ready-to-go container. ?? Although the hustle and bustle of modern life makes it hard to devote enough time to eat healthily, meal planning is a great way to make it far more feasible and less dependent on night-to-night convenience. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Sophia Partida, one of the new leads for our Multi-Media Creators team. Based in Temecula, California, Sophia moved here seven years ago after living in San Diego and Doha, Qatar. She studied journalism at San Diego State University but shifted to advertising as her interest in marketing grew – a transition that has proven to be both natural and fulfilling. ?? Sophia joined The Plug last October as a social media intern and has recently came into her new position, working closely with our main Multi-Media Creators team lead to create video and Pinterest content. ?? This new transition marks the perfect time to showcase Sophia as February’s Team Member Spotlight! Q: What is the best part about your position? A: Being able to try new things, especially when it comes to making content. Before this internship, I didn't have any experience making TikToks or shorts, so I think it's been really fun to come up with ideas for new videos and then actually see them come to life. Q: Do you prefer The Plug Pills or The Plug Drink? A: A hard question! [...] The Plug Drink is easier for me to take and then just drink it in one go. Q: Who’s your favorite musical artist? A: I really like Lana Del Rey. She's been my favorite since I was young and it's actually one of my dreams to go to her concert one day. ?? Q: Do you have a favorite movie? ?? ? A: I'm kind of embarrassed, but my favorite movie is definitely Twilight. I have all the movies. I own them all. I watch them every winter. It's my thing! ????♂? Q: Are there any quotes or advice that you live by? A: My quote for this year specifically is just like a reminder: "Stepping outside of your comfort zone is the best for success.” ?? Q: Any current goals?? A: One of my goals this year is to walk 10,000 steps every day. I've been really trying to be more active. I feel like when you're working remote especially, it's hard to get some movement. I've been pretty consistent with that actually, so I'm proud about that. ?? Q: Anything else you’d like to share? A: I’ve had a really great time with The Plug so far, and I'm excited to see where my journey will go with them right now. I just feel like this whole time I've learned so much more about social media marketing, and, because of this internship, I could definitely see myself having a career in marketing that I didn't see before.     ?? Hey, PlugFAM! W- … Wait, what were we gonna say again? Oh right, brain fog! ?? Ironic, isn't it? But did you know that your liver health contributes to symptoms like brain fog? Oh, you haven’t yet? Let’s dive right in! ?? What is brain fog? ????? Brain fog is a set of common symptoms like forgetfulness, confusion, and mental exhaustion that a person experiences after an illness, as side effects of a medication, and/or if they have any underlying conditions. These symptoms cause your brain to be unable to remember the necessary steps of your current task, along with having difficulty in holding a conversation and even struggling to listen to instructions. But why does this tend to happen? ??♂? When it comes to brain fog, your liver health can actually cause symptoms like mild confusion, forgetfulness, and/or poor concentration due to hepatic encephalopathy and hepatitis C. Hepatic encephalopathy is brain dysfunction due to liver dysfunction, which often occurs to those who are diagnosed with chronic liver disease. Brain fog tends to happen in this state since the damaged liver can’t remove toxins from the bloodstream, resulting in loss of brain function, forgetfulness, and confusion. While for people with hepatitis C, 50% of them experience brain fog since the liver disease causes poor liver function and difficulty in filtering your blood, which also affects your brain.     You look in the mirror and you notice something different about your skin. ?? Random redness, spots of acne, and even areas of irritation, but where is all of this coming from? Well, a major contributor to skin health is the state of your liver! The liver’s job is to essentially act as a filter, sifting out as many bad toxins and bacteria as possible. When the liver is not being taken care of properly, it does not have the tools needed to optimally prevent toxins from entering your body; this can potentially lead to a large accumulation of toxins in your system, which starts physically manifesting in your skin.
