The nation’s 250th birthday is less than two years away, and the Fort Ligonier chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is ready for the major milestone. As its commitment to the America250 celebration campaign, the Ligonier-based DAR group has drawn public attention to the little-known Fort Preservation, a fortification near the Loyalhanna Creek that played a part in defense of the area against the British and their Native American allies during the Revolutionary War. The chapter’s fundraising efforts supplemented a $15,000 award from the Ligonier Valley Endowment of The Pittsburgh Foundation.

So interesting and such important work being done by Nick G Liadis and Bird Lab. Mary Kate Ranii and our Program department were thrilled to take part in this work on a gorgeous day in Hays Woods.
Had the great luck of being able to visit current The Pittsburgh Foundation grantee, Bird Lab, at their banding site in Hays Woods. Nick G Liadis and his team are tracking bird data to better understand how species are impacted by things like climate change, invasive species, and habitat loss. Note: Bird banding is conducted by federal and state-permitted biologists for research purposes; all birds are promptly released after study.
