We were proud supporters and participants in last Friday's Newsapalooza, hosted by Point Park University's Andrew Conte, Ph.D. and the Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. The day's sessions delved into serious issues in journalism like how people are receiving their news, the challenges of breaking through partisan information silos and echo chambers, and how the public's access to local issues has undergone a seismic shift with the folding of small newspapers nationwide. Thank you to all moderators and speakers including CBS News Chief Election and Campaign Correspondent Robert Costa; KDKA-TV's Political Editor Jon Delano; Pitt's Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security's professors Lara Putnam and Elise Silva, PhD, MLIS; and legendary Boston Globe Media reporter, former Spotlight editor and current editor-at-large Walter "Robby" Robinson, who said, today "people see the affirmation they crave, not the information they need." And our Foundation's Vice President of Program and Community Engagement Michelle M. took part a panel discussing how philanthropy supports local news and our region's partnership with Press Forward. We hope this becomes an annual conference for our area.
