Check out this great piece from PBS NewsHour, highlighting our amazing partner organization New American Leaders (NAL), who provide training to refugees, immigrants, and second-generation Americans looking to run for office or manage campaigns. To date, NAL has trained over 1,700 people across the country of which 500 are in the organization's elected officials network. Here at the Pipeline Fund, we understand that women running for office often encounter many challenges and dangers like death threats, harassment, and intimidation. In 2022, we conducted a survey with Hart Research to sit down with candidates running for office and learn more in-depth about what their experience was like during that time. Searchlight New Mexico published a recent article: Death threats. Harassment. Intimidation. For New Mexico women, a life in politics can bring all three, written by Susanna Space highlighted our research which depicts the higher rates of harassment among underrepresented candidates (LGBTQiA+, women under 40, and candidates of color) who are running for office or are in political positions of power already.
