This weeks Teacher Tip is a concept that I really took to heart after reading a great book called The Power of Moments . Something that I try to think about when I’m teaching is looking for a good opportunity to do something for ONE student, that I wish I could do for EVERY student . As teachers we have such a great opportunity to make a huge impact on our students with the smallest amount of effort, but many times we feel overwhelmed with the responsibilities, stress, the massive amount of students in our care and all the additional things that come along with our jobs . It can be so overwhelming to think about inspiring all of your students, but sometimes if you reframe it in your mind and focus on making an impact on ONE student it makes it more achievable (at least that’s my experience) . I think anyone who has been teaching for 3 days has this truth, right? . All kids have different quirks, abilities and talents and the dynamics of each class that you teach are going be totally different. . What one class excels at, another class might struggle with. . One helpful thing I do is to make notes to myself about the dynamics of each class and reminders to myself so I don’t forget specific traits of each of the classes that I teach and ways that I might be able to help each class be successful. . I do the same thing with my students who need special accomodations or attention . Give it a shot this week and make some notes to yourself about the traits of different classes that you have each week and remind yourself about what works well and what is a total disaster in relation to each class that you teach :-) . #physicaleducation #physed #pegeeks #iteachpe #pe #peteacher #elempe #primarype #teacher

This weeks teacher tip is a great reminder for everyone (including me) . Does your Audio Match Your Video? Do you Practice What You Preach? . Are you showing your students that you also value the things that you're teaching them to value? . The thing is, actions speak a lot louder than words and kids can pick up very quickly that your just going through the motions if your actions don't line up with the values you're teaching them to prioritize . If you're asking your students to give 100% in your PE class, you should be giving 100% to them as their teacher as well. . If you're asking your students to value health and fitness, you should SHOW them that it's important through the way you live your life . We need to practice what we preach, because kids can tell when our audio doesn't match our video. . #physicaleducation #physed #pegeeks #iteachpe #pe #peteacher #elempe #primarype

Become the Guide on the Side, Not the Sage on the Stage . This week’s tip is just a big picture idea that I try to remember as a way to zoom out and reflect on my program and what it looks like for me as the creator of my Phys Ed Program . Many times I have to remind myself that I need to step back and find ways to give kids more responsibility and more freedom in my lessons . This means that sometimes things might not always go exactly how you want, but in the long run I think your students will be more engaged and motivated and ultimately better prepared for life if you allow them to accept more responsibility and provide more choice and freedom in your lessons . There are lots of ways to do this you just have to be creative and once your kids start to take that responsibility for their own learning it actually makes your job easier because they're motivating themselves and coaching their peers . #physicaleducation #physed #pegeeks #iteachpe #pe #peteacher #elempe #primarype
