“I have a lot of faith, and I’ve been fortunate to have good people come into my life,” said Kim Hinkle. That includes residents who contributed to Season of Sharing, she added, neighbors she’ll likely never meet. When Hurricane Helene’s floodwater destroyed both of the family’s cars, Kim had to rent a car for $200 a week to get herself and her son to work. Compounding with other stressors from recent hurricanes, she fell behind on rent until she discovered Season of Sharing. The program helped cover her rent and electric bills, so Kim can plan for the future with hope and gratitude in her heart. We work in community with so many committed partners to achieve the impact we seek. This week, our CEO, Patty McIlreavy, was in Austin during the Exponent Philanthropy Annual Conference to connect and build community. The Patterson Foundation is contributing $250,000 to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s (CDP) Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund to support long-term recovery in regions impacted by this year’s severe storms. With 17 named storms and 5 major hurricanes so far, the recovery efforts are vital, focusing on rebuilding homes, supporting vulnerable populations, mental health services, and more. Since 2013, The Patterson Foundation has donated over $6 million to CDP for disaster recovery worldwide.
