In honor of the completion of the 2024 Morgan Stanley Summer Teaching Fellows program, today we are flashing back to last month when we brought together this year’s 20 Summer Teaching Fellows along with PASE Board and Junior Board members, funders, partners, Summer Teaching Fellows site supervisors and agency leadership, and other friends of PASE for our annual Summer Teaching Fellows Reception.? It was a wonderful evening that highlighted the importance of summer programming and the incredible potential when engaged, curious, and passionate college students are trained to support summer learning for NYC children and youth.?? ? This is not only a chance to celebrate the fellows but also to build meaningful connections within our network of individuals committed to educational equity. We are grateful to our fellows for supporting summer learning across NYC, and in turn, we aim to foster connections that support Fellows and their ongoing success.? ? Today, we are celebrating the work of our incredible Morgan Stanley Summer Teaching Fellows, who have been working at NYC summer program sites supporting children and youth for the past month.? ? Since 2004, PASE has recruited, trained, supervised, and paid stipends to 330 college students who have provided academic support and enrichment to summer camp programs in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods across New York City.? Summer is a time to level the playing field and close the opportunity gap and, as such, PASE equips fellows with training in literacy, STEM, SEL and trauma informed/healing centered engagement, and more.?? ?? This year’s cohort is made up of 20 fellows representing 15 different colleges and universities. Over the course of 6 weeks, their support enhances the educational opportunities and learning experiences to an estimated 2,000+ children at 16 different NYC host sites. ? ? Summer is a key time for young people, and youth programs play a vital role in ensuring ALL youth have enriching, rewarding, and equitable summer experiences. Across New York City, community-based organizations, educational systems, and cultural institutions are stepping up as we speak to ensure that young people have opportunities to maintain their learning from the school year, build relationships and social connections, learn new skills, and form lifelong memories. This week in particular, we celebrate the organizations, programs, and educators who put their all into this work.
