Ryan Holiday and his wife Samantha opened The Painted Porch Book Shop with their entire life savings in a 140-year-old building in a small town outside Austin. They envisioned hosting events, welcoming customers from the community, and drawing people to this beautiful street on the bluffs of the Colorado River. But by the first week of March 2020 the world was entrenched in a pandemic. What began with such excitement found them both, for obvious reasons, standing between the empty brick walls thinking of that Arrested Development line: I’ve made a huge mistake.
