This #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the extraordinary women of Ikiama Nukuri, an Indigenous-led movement organized by Fundación Pachamama transforming maternal and child health in the Ecuadorian Amazon. ? At the heart of this movement is Narcisa Mashienta, a Shuar leader and advocate for Indigenous women’s rights. As the head coordinator of Ikiama Nukuri, she has worked alongside over 100 ancestral Indigenous midwives, strengthening traditional knowledge and ensuring safe births across Achuar and Shuar communities. ?? “Since we lost a baby in my community, I promised myself to change this reality. Today, with Ikiama Nukuri, Indigenous women are leading intercultural health in our jungle.” – Narcisa ?? Ikiama Nukuri means “Women Defenders of the Forest” in the Achuar language. Since its founding in 2006, these women have: ?? Attended 3,000+ pregnancies, ensuring safer births ?? Delivered 5,000+ safe birth kits to remote communities ?? Expanded Indigenous midwifery to 100% of Achuar and 50% of Shuar associations Beyond maternal care, Ikiama Nukuri is breaking cycles of gender-based violence, working with men, women, and youth to foster stronger, healthier communities. Today, we honor Narcisa, the midwives, and every Indigenous woman who is reclaiming her power, protecting ancestral wisdom, and securing a healthier future for generations to come. #IWD2025 #IndigenousWomen #WomenDefenders #MaternalHealth #EmpowerWomen #IkiamaNukuri

  • Political upheaval. Climate crises. Social unrest. Many of us feel destabilized, searching for solid ground. But within the chaos, there’s a deeper call—to root in what matters, to stand with love, courage, and truth. At a recent Resilience and Possibility gathering, Drew Dellinger invoked Martin Luther King Jr.'s words: "It may be that the salvation of the world lies in the hands of the maladjusted." Lynne Twist echoed this, urging us to become islands of coherence in a sea of chaos. Even small pockets of clarity and connection can ripple outward and shift the whole. How do we navigate these times? ? Acknowledge the discomfort—Transformation is unsettling, and that’s okay. ? Find your taproot—What keeps you steady when the ground is shifting? ? Build islands of coherence—Whether through community, conversation, or action, create spaces of clarity and alignment. ? Remember why you are here—What do you stand for? What is the contribution only you can make? ?? Dive into the full conversation here: https://hubs.li/Q035PpJX0

???? Big Win for Ecuador’s Ocean! ???? Ecuador has made history (again)! The country’s Constitutional Court ruled in favor of recognizing the rights of marine ecosystems, strengthening protections for coral reefs, fish populations, and coastal biodiversity. As the first country to recognize nature’s legal rights, Ecuador continues to lead the way in environmental justice. This ruling ensures that industries and policies must now prioritize the health of marine ecosystems. #RightsOfNature #OceanProtection #Ecuador #ClimateWins ?? Read more: https://hubs.li/Q035Jz8c0

A recent U.S. Executive Order has paused funding for our sister organization, Fundación Pachamama’s SACHA Project—our largest conservation initiative in the Amazon. The SACHA Project is supported by a $12 million grant from USAID, which began in 2024 and was slated to continue until 2028. This funding directly supports efforts to improve the conservation and sustainable use of Amazon forest ecosystems across four provinces in the Amazon. Read more here: https://hubs.li/Q035vYDj0
