Medicine Almost Broke Me—Learn How I Took Back Control ?????? I was just talking with a friend about how medicine makes completely unreasonable demands on us. For a system that claims to be about “health” care, it certainly doesn’t seem to care about the health of its providers. (Honestly, it’s more about the diseases of its patients, but that’s an email and a soapbox for another day). I know how ill healthcare can make you because I felt it. When I was burned out, I was sick—struggling with insomnia, pneumonia, autoimmune disease—my body was screaming for me to slow down. (Well, first it whispered and then it spoke and then it screamed… hindsight being what it is I wished I had listened to those warning signs of my body sooner). But medicine doesn’t let you slow down, does it? Certainly it doesn’t encourage you to take the time you need to connect with patients, heal and be healthy, and take good care.? Now? Post burnout, career pivot, and into entrepreneurship, I’m thriving. I have the time, energy, and margin to REST alongside working clinically, running a business, and showing up for my family. And I deeply want that for you, too. That’s why I’m so excited to present this webinar with AAPA American Academy of Physician Associates: ?? How Skiing Saved My Life ?? 5 years ago, I was deep in burnout. Not the "a little tired, I need a vacation" kind of burnout. The "shell of myself, no hobbies, no joy, just surviving" kind. I ignored the warning signs: pneumonia, insomnia, exhaustion, and even a mysterious autoimmune disease. I ignored the gut feeling that something had to change. I was depressed and slowly, dying inside and out. But the moment I couldn’t ignore? When my 2-year-old daughter looked at me and said, "Mommy, you're stupid." because I was working on call instead of snuggling up with her. That was my wake-up call. I quit my job the next week. In the aftermath, I felt completely lost. My identity had been wrapped up in being a PA, and I had no idea who I was outside of that role. But as I was navigating this messy transition, I made one small but life-changing decision: I bought a ski pass to Blue Mountain Resort, Poconos, PA. I hadn’t skied in over a decade—grad school, marriage, pregnancies, and career had pulled me away. But from the moment I clicked into my skis, something shifted. I felt like ME again. Skiing became my therapy, my movement, my community. It got me outside when seasonal depression tried to pull me under. It gave me a space where I wasn’t a PA, a mom, or a wife—I was just Tracy, a skier, a woman and a person. This season, I attended a women’s ski day at Bear Creek Mountain Resort and Conference Center, hosted by Buckman's Ski & Snowboard Shops. At this event, I met incredible women of all ages and skill levels. On the lift, I rode with an elderly gentleman who had just lost his wife of 53 years a few months prior. As my heart was breaking for him, having lost his life partner and love. He told me about their life together, their travels, and their time skiing as a family. That conversation reminded me why I love this sport—and why I fight so hard to make space for it in my life. Burnout is real. But hobbies do help. We need something that is just for us. So, I have to ask: What’s your skiing? What’s the thing that makes you feel alive? What has pulled you back from burnout or given you passion and purpose again? Drop a comment below—I want to hear your hobby. ?? Yes, even if it's something you haven't done in YEARS. What is it? #BurnoutRecovery #Skiing #MentalHealth #MomLife #WorkLifeBalance #PhysicianAssistant #OutdoorTherapy #FindYourPassion Photo of some new friends on the lift at Sugarbush Resort on a ski trip!

Dear 23-Year-Old Me, You don’t know it yet, but you are wise beyond your years. You are standing at the start of a journey that will shape you in ways you cannot yet fathom. Right now, you're a bright-eyed, newly minted PA-C with stars in your eyes, deeply in love with a most unlikely candidate, stepping into a world of medicine, marriage, stepmotherhood, motherhood proper and adulthood with unshakable optimism. You have no idea what’s coming—the burnout, the pregnancies, the babies, the losses, the illness, the wins, the joys and the sorrows or the breathtaking highs and the gut-wrenching lows. But let me tell you something, sweet girl: you chose well. Twelve years ago, you married the love of your life, exactly one year to the date after your first date with Daniel Bingaman. Maybe people thought it was fast. Maybe people questioned your choice to ELOPE to Vegas (without telling our families until after the fact!) Maybe there were whispers of doubt. But you listened to your heart, and that decision has proven to be one of the wisest choices you have ever made. Because in this life, there are so many things you can't control, but who you choose to build your life with—that choice? The choice of your partner in life? That one matters more than you know. Last night, we celebrated. A lobster dinner at home, just like we always do. But this time, for the first time, we let the kids in on the tradition. The same kids who, by the way, apparently Three of our five kiddos crowded around the table, messy and loud and exactly as they should be. And somewhere in the midst of the laughter, the chaos, and the buttery fingers reaching for another bite, I had this moment of clarity: It’s happening. Life—this amazing, beautiful, messy, imperfect life—is happening all around us. And you did this. You built this. You fought for it through exhaustion and self-doubt. You held on through the growing pains of what it means to be a wife, a mom, a professional, and honestly, a real-live adult. You learned when to push forward and when to let go. You made hard choices, and you made beautiful ones, and together, they brought you here—to this loud, love-filled table, surrounded by people who mean everything to you (and drive you crazy in equal measure). So thank you. Thank you for trusting yourself. Thank you for being brave. Thank you for choosing love, even when it felt like a leap into the unknown. Twelve years later, I can tell you—it was worth it. With love and deep gratitude, Your Older, Wiser (and Slightly More Grey) Self Photo, snapped by a complete stranger who saw us walking through the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on our way to be wed and offered to take a photo of us. This is one of my favorite photos of that day.

?? If you’re NOT burned out, questioning medicine, or stretched to your limit… keep scrolling. This post is NOT for you. But if you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and wondering how much longer you can keep this up… this is *specifically* for you. ?? Burnout broke me. Years ago, after an all-night call, my 2-year-old asked for a snuggle at 5 AM. I told her no. Not because I didn’t want to—but because I physically couldn’t. She looked at me and said: “Momma, you’re STUPID.” One week later, I quit my job. ? Fast forward to last week—same time of day, same little girl (now almost 7). This time, I closed my laptop, pulled back the blanket, and held her close. That’s life on the other side of burnout. It’s possible for you, too. ?? Ready to reclaim your time? ??
