Our Science Initiative staff recently attended the Southeastern Partners for Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (SEPARC) annual meeting in Lake Guntersville State Park, Alabama. At the meeting, Houston presented two presentations discussing work on Eastern Indigo Snakes and Reticulated Flatwoods Salamanders. Andrea presented a poster on our ongoing Spotted Turtle research, and Ben and Jesus shared a poster discussing our long-term monitoring project for indigo snakes in Georgia. SEPARC also provided a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues from around the Southeast, including previous Orianne staff members. From left to right, Ben Stegenga (Research Assistant), Jesus Rodriguez (2024-2025 indigo season technician), Andrea Colton (Associate Conservation Scientist), Peyton Niebanck (2023-2024 indigo season technician), Kevin Hutcheson (2021-2022 and 2022-2023 indigo season technician), Ryne Huggins (2023 EDB technician), and Houston Chandler (Science Director). #OrianneSociety #science #amphibian #reptile #wildlife #conservation

Andrea recently learned how to collect environmental DNA (eDNA) samples. This backpack will allow us to gather water samples to test for Spotted Turtle DNA and find new populations. Combined with visual encounter surveys and trapping, we hope it boosts our chances of finding turtles! #OrianneSociety #turtle #turtlesurveys #environmentalDNA #turtleconservation #wildlife #conservation
