I never thought I would refer to filing my taxes as "enjoyable," and yet the process could not have been more seamless this filing season. As a COO or in a consultant capacity, I always advised CEOs to invest in accounting and bookkeeping above all else. Now, as the owner of a startup, accounting was one of my first major investments. Who handles your finances and the software you use, makes a world of difference. I found my accounting firm CPA MOMS through attending a LinkedIn Live session with the The Female Quotient, hosted by Amber Coleman-Mortley. As a #woman-owned business, I wanted to not only support a fellow woman-owned business, but support working moms. Value systems and value statements are important. In order for both to have staying power, you have to follow through with action. I am so grateful to be a part of a network of women entrepreneurs both here in #Pittsburgh and globally. I am also honored to be a part of a community of #womenveterans who remind me that service doesn't stop when you take off the uniform. There is still so much work to be done for our peers and for the women who have followed us. And I am grateful to have the incredible support system coming from all sides as I grow The Orange Peel Collaborative. As Hilary says, it takes a village.

Yesterday marked a significant shift in federal AI policy. President Biden's Executive Order on AI was fully rescinded, along with nearly 80 other EOs. Many of us anticipated a rollback when Trump won, but this sweeping elimination underscores the uncertainty surrounding AI safety and regulation in the U.S. ?? While federal efforts remain uncertain, I’m proud to be part of the California Senate where we can take action. ?? Policymakers and their staff in California here have been collaborating with AI experts, industry, and academia (including Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) who generously hosted California State Boot Camp on AI) to drive smart, informed legislation in the upcoming year. ??
