Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring has been recognized as a Program of Distinction designation from Generations United. This esteemed award is presented annually to programs across the United States that exemplify exceptional innovation, leadership, and best practices in fostering connections between generations. These qualities enhance opportunities for program sustainability and success in achieving desired outcomes. Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring is one of only 57 programs named a Program of Distinction in 2025. Earning this distinction highlights Oasis' commitment to bridging generational divides and fostering meaningful connections by providing one-on-one support. For more than 35 years, Oasis has been proving that magic happens when different generations share their time, talents, and stories. And thanks to Oasis' incredible tutors and school partners, the organization is making a real impact—one child, one tutor, and one heartwarming connection at a time! Oasis has recently expanded from our legacy literacy tutoring model to include a mathematics tutoring component, and a model for teaching life skills and mentoring children in foster care through the newly launched Oasis Grand Champions program. Older adults can be powerful positive influences in so many ways, and intergenerational connections create positive impacts for both the child who is tutored and mentored, and the older adult volunteer who engages in this purposeful work! ?

Peter Sun and Nancy Morrow-Howell represented Oasis and Washington University in St. Louis at the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Annual Scientific Meeting, where they presented research on the impact of volunteerism on older adults. The study, supported by the RRF Foundation for Aging (Grant No. 2020020), showed that participation in the Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program positively impacts older adults' health. Congrats Peter and Nancy, we appreciate your research and dedication to improving the lives of older adults!

We were thrilled to have Oasis team members attend the recent Grantmakers in Aging conference, where they explored the latest trends in aging, health, and caregiving. At Oasis, we are committed to staying at the forefront of this field and continually strive to lead with insights and expertise. Thanks Lyndsey Hodges Reichardt, MPA, CFRE and Sara Paige, OTR, PMP!
I had a fantastic time representing The Oasis Institute last week in Detroit with my colleague Sara Paige, OTR, PMP at the Grantmakers In Aging (GIA) annual conference and Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers Convening. It's always nice to connect with our funders and partners in person. We attended a number of breakout sessions and keynote speeches focusing on reducing ageism, adopting a life course perspective, social engagement as a driver of health, systems-level dementia care solutions, and more. We even got to go on a site visit to the Hannan Center and participate in a gesture drawing class for older adults, and experienced the beauty of downtown Detroit. I'm looking forward to sharing our learnings with the broader Oasis community.
