A Lifetime of Listening: The Benefits of Music Appreciation for Older Adults Music appreciation is a fantastic topic for seniors, offering various mental, social, and emotional benefits. Our weekly music appreciation class at The Oaks of Pasadena is one of our most popular activities. Many thanks to Pasadena City College and our guest lecturer Ryan! 1. Cognitive Engagement. Listening to, analyzing, and learning about different types of music can stimulate the brain, helping maintain cognitive health. Music can activate areas of the brain associated with memory, language, and emotions, which is particularly helpful for our independent living residents at The Oaks of Pasadena who are aiming to stay mentally sharp. 2. Emotional Well-being. Music’s therapeutic qualities can help individuals of all ages manage stress, elevate mood, and foster emotional resilience. Listening to or discussing music from earlier periods in life often brings back positive memories for Oaks of Pasadena residents and guests, creating a strong sense of comfort and joy. 3. Social Interaction. Music appreciation classes or groups provide social opportunities, helping reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. By gathering with others who share similar interests, older adults can build friendships, stay socially engaged, and feel a greater sense of community. Our weekly classes at The Oaks of Pasadena always draw a large crowd! 4. Cultural Enrichment. Learning about music’s history, styles, and elements offers residents at The Oaks of Pasadena a deeper understanding of the arts and culture, enriching their daily lives and enhancing their appreciation for different genres and time periods. We welcome family members, potential residents and friends to sit in on one of our music appreciation classes! **Celebrating 32 Years of Dedication: Honoring a Valued Employee** Recognizing employees isn't just a gesture—it's the key to cultivating a motivated, engaged workplace. When people feel appreciated for their efforts, they become more invested in their roles, boosting team morale and reducing turnover. It also fosters stronger teamwork and creates a positive work environment where everyone thrives. At The Oaks of Pasadena, we’re fortunate to have several long-term employees who have become the heart of our community. Today, we’re proud to highlight one of them: Meet Maria Lopez, a cherished member of The Oaks family who has dedicated an incredible 32 years to our community! Maria began her journey as a housekeeper, spent some time working in the cafeteria at Las Encinas Hospital next door, and later returned to The Oaks in her current role as our wonderful laundress. Among the many memories she’s made here, one of her favorites is winning the raffle and a TV at our annual employee holiday party—two years in a row, no less! Maria’s versatility and dedication shine through in everything she does. Whether helping out with a variety of tasks or receiving heartfelt thanks from residents, her warmth and hard work are truly appreciated by all. We are deeply grateful for the love and commitment Maria has shown to both our residents and our team over the past three decades. Thank you, Maria, for being an invaluable part of The Oaks family! #oaksofpasadena #seniorliving #employeeappreciation #employeeengagement #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #seniorcommunity

Top 5 Reasons to Host a Senior Community Open House Hosting an open house at a senior living community is a great way to attract potential residents and their families while showcasing what the community has to offer. Here are the top five reasons to host such an event: 1. **Showcase the Facilities and Amenities** An open house provides the opportunity to highlight amenities such as fitness activities, dining options, social areas, and outdoor spaces. For example, The Oaks of Pasadena is part of a 27-acre property including a swimming pool, arboretum and paved walking paths. Our elegant restaurant-style dining room receives many compliments from our residents and guests. 2. **Build Personal Connections** Open houses allow potential residents and their families to meet staff and current residents. Building personal connections can ease concerns and create a sense of trust, which is critical when choosing a senior living facility. At The Oaks, our facilities manager Luis has been here for 34 years and takes pride in providing speedy and customer-friendly service to each resident. 3. **Answer Questions in Real Time** Hosting an open house lets families ask detailed questions about the community's offerings, pricing and availability. Providing immediate, in-person responses can increase confidence in the decision-making process. Unlike many other senior communities, there is no "buy-in fee" here at The Oaks. We have studio, 1 and 2-bedroom apartments available, starting at $4,000 per month. 4. **Experience the Community Atmosphere** Potential residents can get a feel for the community’s culture and vibe during an open house. Recreational, social, and educational activities are part of daily life at The Oaks, and our staff and residents foster a welcoming, engaging environment! 5. **Boost Occupancy and Marketing Reach** Open house events are great for marketing and generating leads, as they can attract individuals who may have been hesitant to contact the community or schedule a tour. The Oaks welcomes potential residents, family members and friends to stop by our next open house on Saturday, October 19, anytime from 10 am - 2pm! We often discover that older adults do not always keep their beneficiaries up-to-date, nor do they take some of the practical steps to ensure their legacy is in order. Power of Attorney, Healthcare Directives, Gifting Strategies and Living Wills are some of the topics we'll be exploring on September 24th at The Oaks of Pasadena. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation. Tours will be available.
