?? Have you marked your calendar?! ?? ?? According to a 2021 study by Kotex, 2 in 5 people struggle with period poverty in the US. Period poverty can negatively impact one’s physical and mental health, as well as productivity at work. Tampon Tuesday is our spin off on Tampon Tuesday and will enable us to ensure menstruating individuals have access to emergency period products to survive a crisis. We have received a generous challenge match of $10,000 by a family foundation that will remain anonymous. This means that if we reach our goal, we’ll able to DOUBLE our impact to ensure that we can provide 1,200 women and girls with access to emergency period products. In just 9 days, we’ve ensured that over 26,000 hygiene products were directly transported to women and children who’ve lost everything due to the horrific impacts of #HurricaneHelene. Our disaster relief emergency efforts are long-term and will provide recovery for the journey ahead. As each day passes, we continue to see a rise in referrals from partnering agencies and an increase in need throughout Western NC. EVERY woman or girl served receives what they need for at least 30 days. Just yesterday, our hygiene kits made it into the hands of a church that where women and children are temporarily being housed. The stories of instant gratitude are overwhelming and chilling. Friends, Shirnetta, here! I’ve been on the phone since yesterday working with leaders. We’ve received so many emails, direct messages and calls about #HurricaneHelene. Unfortunately, the Western part of NC has very limited electricity and phone service. As always, our team is poised to respond to our partnering agencies who are providing critical crisis response assistance to women and children across the state of NC. The BIGGEST way that you can help us meet emergent needs is by directly shopping our Amazon Wish List to help us fulfill incoming referrals for women and children experiencing a crisis because of a natural disaster. I cannot fathom being unexpectedly impacted by a Hurricane and not having access to things like toothpaste or soap. Our hearts are absolutely devastated by the unprecedented amount of individuals that have been impacted, including my own hometown of Nash County, the Western part of NC and other areas across our beautiful state. Thank you so much for the first responders, city officials, journalists and community leaders who have been on the ground, working around the clock to assess and respond to Helene. ??ANNOUNCEMENT ?? After 6 months of comprehensive planning and development, we’re excited to announce the launch of Raleigh’s First Pink Pantry! Tuesday, Raleigh City Council Members approved the request including its location, structure and purpose. In partnership with the City of Raleigh Municipal Government, The Pink Pantry will provide hygiene products free of charge for women, children and families who are experiencing homelessness or a crisis in Downtown Raleigh. The Pink Pantry will be located adjacent to Downtown Raleigh’s Nash Square Park and will also be wheelchair accessible. In February of 2024, the City of Raleigh awarded our organization funding to ensure the pantry remains fully stocked with hygiene products. We’re excited to also partner with Garman Homes who designed and will build the Pink Pantry. Garman Homes is a woman led construction company who believes in the importance of women supporting women. The Pink Pantry will be a direct access point for women and children who may be in immediate need of hygiene products while sleeping on the streets or who may not already be supported through services. We’re immensely grateful for this strategic partnership with The City of Raleigh and Garman Homes for their innovative approach to giving dignity to those who are most vulnerable.
