The Neuroverse Initiative

Welcome to the Neuroverse!! ?? ?? ?? We are excited to announce our new non-profit, launching in 2024, that will provide the community with training, research, and advocacy at the intersection of Space Science and Neurodiversity. This initiative has been a long time in the making and we are so thrilled to be ready to share our work with the world. The below slides state our mission statement and areas of focus, know as the Galaxies of the Neuroverse (Alt text has been provided for each of these slides). We would love to know what types of programs and supports you think the Space Sciences need, to help leverage the amazing strengths of neurodiversity, and how can those of us who are neurodivergent can find meaningful careers in the industry. Our non-profit is run by a majority ND board of directors: Jessica Schonhut-Stasik (Founder and President), Dave Thompson (Secretary and Director), Olivia A Greene (Treasurer and Director), Seven Rasmussen, PhD (Director), Jiaxin Jessie Wang (Director), and Michael Reynolds (Director). We are currently partnering with The Frist Center for Autism and Innovation | Vanderbilt University, Potentia Workforce, SciAccess, and Natasha Latouf's Spectrum mentoring. FULL FLYER TEXT: What is it like to be a cisgender working autistic woman? Who can participate? Participants must be from the US, 18+, work 30+ hours per week at a single job, have an average of 2+ meetings per week at work, be a cisgender woman, and identify as autistic. What will I be doing? You will fill out 1 sign-up survey in December and then will answer one survey per business day for 3 weeks beginning mid-January. These surveys will ask about your experiences WORKPLACE MEETINGS or regarding other work demands. This research is aimed at making workplaces more inclusive for cisgender autistic women. How much will I be compensated for participating? Participants who complete the study can earn up to $90 ($5 per survey and a $10 bonus for completing all daily surveys) How can I sign up to participate? As 2025 approaches, we are focusing on three key areas, and your donations can support all of these initiatives: 1. Our Neuroinclusion Curriculum Development and Implementation:?At TNI, we strive to enhance the experience of neurodivergent students in the space sciences by developing a curriculum for astronomy departments that promotes neuroinclusion.?Your donations will help us purchase resources and engage stakeholders for consultation.?We aim to implement this curriculum in as many US colleges and universities. We offer our services?on a sliding scale?to support departments with fewer resources.?Your donation helps those with limited budgets, especially HBUs and R2 institutions, access the program. 2. Student Support Programs:?TNI aims to establish a nationwide network of support groups run by and for space science graduate students. We will provide resources and stipends for their leaders to ensure these groups are safe and well-resourced.?Your donations will directly support the graduate students leading these efforts at their institutions. 3. Grants to ND Space Scientists:?We aim to provide grants to ND space scientists for conference travel and professional development.?Your donations directly support this initiative.
