Growing Together: Gardening for Food Security Did You Know? The potassium from banana peels can be used to make banana juice to fertilize your plants for a better turnout! The Neighborhood Center of South Lake’s Gardening Class hosted on March 14th, 2025, showed a great turnout- in produce and people! Our neighbors continued to harvest our winter garden- cauliflower, beets, carrots, etc.- and planted peanuts for the spring! In our monthly Gardening Class, led by local Farmer Banks, our neighbors learn to plant, grow, and harvest their own food through our hands-on program. This invaluable knowledge helps our neighbors become self-sufficient in providing their own food, ensuring they can feed themselves and their families no matter the circumstances. Each class is more than just a lesson; it’s a chance to grow, and cultivate a healthier, more sustainable future. Let’s plant the seeds of hope and resilience together.
