On Monday, The Mulligan Fund’s founder Steve Rophail and Director of Operations Diana Rodriguez had the privilege of meeting Kayla Ramsey, a dedicated SPED teacher from Alvin, Texas, nominated by her friend Derek to be one of five educators receiving $250 in cash. This initiative was part of a heartfelt project TMF organized with support from Deans Downtown to raise and distribute funds to local Houston teachers. Our motivation behind this initiative was simple: many of us have had a teacher or know a teacher who shows up each day with empathy, compassion, and the belief that we don’t have to be perfect—we just have to be ourselves. Kayla exemplifies this spirit, passionately inspiring her students to succeed both in and out of the classroom. Derek’s nomination beautifully captured the essence of her impact, and it was no surprise that when Kayla received her prize, her immediate response was, “Wow, this is amazing. This is going right back into things for my classroom and students!” This moment embodies everything The Mulligan Fund stands for: supporting those who lift up our community. We were honored to surprise Kayla with her prize and recognize her tireless dedication, made possible by the generous contributions of Houstonians, including those who attended the Deans Downtown: Carnival on Main event. A special shout-out goes to Theresa, one of the event’s vendors, who donated her entire night’s earnings to this cause. Stay tuned as we surprise three more incredible teachers this week!
