The Moth

A lot of my hobbies are things I learned from my dad: -Singing -Playing tennis -Exploring state and national parks While being offline recently for some overdue family visits, I got to introduce my dad to one of ???? hobbies: -Storytelling It was a really special memory taking my dad to The Moth StorySLAM storytelling competition for the first time, and we actually attended two of them in one week! Last week, we both got our names selected to perform at a show in Philadelphia, and two nights later my dad got his name called to be the final storyteller of the night at a Washington. D.C. show! For years, as I've been performing at storytelling shows across southern California, he's watched from afar and said he planned to try it someday too. It was really special being there to cheer him on as he took the stage twice in one week. He had so much fun up there, and his stories got a lot of laughs! (It runs in the family, obviously.) ?? I don't know that my dad's going to keep performing as frequently as his daughter does, but I do know that it was such a cool full-circle moment for us to reverse our roles, and for me to share a new hobby and some pointers with him for a change. Now we have another new thing to share. And he knows that we can both teach one another a thing or two.

The Moth's CCO, Christina Norman, will be a featured panelist at this year's Women of Color Empowerment Institute Conference! As an over 20-year veteran of the entertainment industry, Christina will be sharing her career expertise along with Joiava Philpott of Cox Communications and Tiffany Eubanks-Saunders of Bank of America Private Bank. I will be forever grateful to The Moth x Ford Foundation for the opportunity to participate in the Global Storytelling Workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa. Each participant’s stories were honored, held and crafted in a way that leverages our personal experiences and highlights their social impact. I’m so proud to have represented Institute for Women's Policy Research as a Ford Foundation grantee. We will continue to levarge the stories of women to bring policy change ?
