What’s the one thing with more hype than weight-loss drugs right now? If you said AI, you’ve probably been following Europe’s stock markets (and everyone else's.) This week, German software-maker SAP dethroned Danish drug company Novo Nordisk to become the most valuable public company in Europe with a total value of €302 billion ($326 billion). SAP’s stock has shot up 40% over the past 12 months as the company transitioned its focus away from selling licensed software to offering cloud-based subscription services and AI features. Its success has helped bolster Germany’s market. Meanwhile, Novo—which has sometimes swapped places with luxury conglomerate LVMH at the top of Europe’s heap—has seen its stock fall 40% over the same period, as investors consider whether it has a next gen follow-up to blockbuster drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. ?? : Getty

Soon after Alibaba warned of a bubble, one member of the Mag 7 is rolling back some AI plans. Microsoft is pumping the brakes on its AI infrastructure buildout, abandoning new data center projects in the US and Europe that would have utilized about 2 gigawatts of electricity, TD Cowen analysts wrote today. Even with plans to still spend $80 billion on AI projects this year, TD Cowen noted in February that Microsoft had abandoned a few data center leases in the US as it reworked its relationship with OpenAI. Microsoft isn’t alone in alarming investors with its spending spree. Meta is set to spend $65 billion on AI plans this year, while Alphabet projects $75 billion on AI projects. Both companies have already swooped in to take over some of Microsoft’s abandoned leases, TD Cowen said. Clearly, not everyone in big tech is bracing for a slowdown, even if investors are getting nervous. ?? ?: Getty

It’s been a wild ride for anyone holding Tesla stock over the last year. From the boost that came from helping push Donald Trump into the White House to the post-inauguration crash stemming from his heading of DOGE, Elon Musk’s actions have had an effect on the volatile share price of Tesla over the past 12 months. With protests at showrooms showing no signs of abating and Chinese EV manufacturer BYD surging, Tesla will continue to be in the spotlight for the foreseeable future.
