Calling all friends in Canadian Prairie Ag! Did you know we're in the company of a rural Manitoban bootstrapped startup, just 4 years old, experiencing hockey-stick sales growth? This business is demonstrating biodiversity as an investable new asset class. Let me say that again - biodiversity as an investible new asset class. If you're anywhere in the business of agriculture, and it's not being worked in to your company's budget as a quantifiable line item right now, you're either missing an opportunity or creating new financial risks. Thanks so much to The Modern Acre for shedding light and credibility on the incredible work and vision of Covers & Co. This team's determination, passion, culture, purpose, customer experience, brand and value proposition far exceed anything I've seen in my long career in western Canadian agriculture.
The Modern Acre is the podcast for builders in agriculture who think differently. The story of Covers & Co. and their founders is exactly that. Tune in to hear from their Co-Founder, Joe, talk about the journey of scaling a cover crop seed business. Huge honor to have Tim Nuss and Tyler Nuss put Lumo on their super official top ten list of food and ag companies to watch! It’s wild to me to be included alongside impressive names like sweetgreen Agtonomy @Maui Nui, Leaf Agriculture, @Gripp and LandScan. Their commentary, as usual, was spot on. Tim and Tyler believe Lumo has a ton of upside because: - We’re laser focused on proving out our model in a specific crop type - We’re taking a valve, a low tech piece of hardware you'll find on almost every farm, and swapping in a smart valve that connects directly to the cloud, allowing growers to control their valves from anywhere and providing much better insights into water usage and irrigation system performance - There’s a clear parallel to what Nest did with thermostats. Swap out this low tech piece of hardware, put in something that’s modern, plug-and-play, low friction, and get much better functionality as a result Sounds like a pretty good definitely-not-investment-advice thesis to me! Thanks for all the amazing wisdom you share on the The Modern Acre. Check out the first comment for a link to another amazing episode.

We made a list of companies that we're excited about in food and ag. Companies that we'd want to work at that we think are going to increase in value over time. Check it out and let us know what you think. This is not investment advice and not an exhaustive list. It's for entertainment purposes and not that serious. Can't think what makes me cringe more: listening to the sound of my own voice, or recommending that others do? Either way, it was fab to swap notes with Tim and Tyler Nuss on The Modern Acre podcast, where the hosts dig in on some pretty interesting agri-food themes with folks who are doing cool things in the space. Worth a follow. Tune in if you're curious about the journey so far at Indigo Ag: the story of a young company in the Sustainability space these last few years, and finding that precarious balance between focus and opportunity while navigating the growth-at-all-costs era into a more sober, data-obsessed path to profitability. More hot takes? Let's get into it at Climate Week in New York next week! Even if you're not looking to chat about our awesome sustainability programs to reduce and remove carbon from the agri-food chain, we can collectively complain about the gridlock Manhattan traffic and loudly bemoan unwise footwear choices after a day stomping up and down Midtown. Let me know if you're around!
