It was a privilege to visit our customer, Long Beach Transit, to see ChargePilot? in action! Automated load management makes this project possible, with 1.8 MW Heliox charger capacity safely installed on a 1 MW electric utility service to charge 20 New Flyer Buses. ? As one of the first in California to oversubscribe EV load at a site in this way, this site is a model for how a reliable transit bus charging system can be built on open standards, with optimal use of energy infrastructure. LBT is leading the charge to zero-emission transit with a commitment to innovation and reliable service, and we are honored to be a component of their success. A?state law signed in November?by Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, significantly expanded efforts to build out EV charging infrastructure and incentivize EV adoption across the state. Massachusetts aims to have 900,000 EVs on its roads by 2030, up from about?90,000 last year. The Program will support residential, commercial, and school district participants with V2X deployments. Not-for-profits and municipalities with fleets will be eligible under the program’s commercial track.?Applicants in low income or Environmental Justice neighborhoods are encouraged to apply. ?Automated Load Management: The Technical Guide For EV Fleet Charging? Download the complete 19-page guide: https://hubs.ly/Q039BQyy0 "Automated load management (ALM) is the use of software or other behind-the-meter technologies to strategically share charging capacity across multiple charging ports at the same charging site, helping safely connect multiple charging ports whose total nameplate load would otherwise exceed the rated capacity of the customer connection. By using ALM, customers can avoid or defer the need to upgrade certain distribution system infrastructure to accommodate the new EV charging load.”?– Definition from the Vehicle-Grid Integration Council (VGIC) ALM can allow fleet operators to install their first phase of charging infrastructure immediately, even while they are waiting on the utility upgrades that will enable future phases of expansion. For large EV installations especially, ALM allows the nameplate capacity (calculated as the sum total of the max possible load) of installed chargers to exceed site connection limitations and thereby, in some cases, mitigate the need for infrastructure upgrades, saving time, money, and materials.
