Every day, we celebrate the women shaping the future of architecture—an industry where they have historically been underrepresented. Women make up 50% of our team at Miller Hull, leading with innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to impactful design. These are some of the remarkable women in our San Diego and Seattle studios, each playing an invaluable role in our practice and the built environment.

Now open to the community, the new Redmond Library offers flexible, welcoming spaces designed for learning, collaboration, and exploration. Situated along Deschutes Avenue, the facility doubles the size of the previous building and incorporates mass timber to enhance warmth, sustainability, and longevity. From the Children’s Discovery Space to the dedicated teen area, co-working spaces, and a variety of meeting rooms, the library provides opportunities for all ages to gather, connect, and create. Miller Hull Partner, Ruth Baleiko, FAIA, LEED AP, was recently quoted in Cascade Business News on the project: “‘As society changes, our libraries do too,’ Miller Hull Architect Ruth Baleiko added. ‘Gone are the days when libraries existed solely to supply books and house study groups. Today, libraries represent the support fabric of our communities, providing a vital piece of social infrastructure that empowers and strengthens all who use it. In these new and improved libraries, community members congregate in large meeting rooms that can expand and contract depending on the size. County-wide events will take place. Youth programs will flourish.’” Congratulations to our client, team, and everyone who contributed to this project. We look forward to seeing the community make this space their own. Nick Clesi, AIA, and Japneet Pahwa recently toured the Newhouse Building Replacement with The Olympian Newspaper, sharing how our design honors the neoclassical character of the Capitol Campus while embracing contemporary sustainability and functionality. "'The interior and exteriors are very reflective of just neoclassical design principles,’ said architect Nick Clesi, project manager at the Seattle-based Miller Hull Partnership, LLC. 'So we wanted to bring this building into the current time, but relate it to the history of the rest of the campus.’” "Architect Japneet Pahwa with Miller Hull Partnership LLC pointed to a feature wall made from salvaged Douglas fir timber. Its pattern changes with each floor, reflecting abstract representations of the state’s diverse landscapes. The wall’s wood slats still have holes and nails, Pahwa said: marks from history. 'So we actually respected the deformities of these woods,’ she said. 'All this timber is really old.’” Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/4iaN5ql.

Learn more about the power of progressive design-build in this insightful video from Lease Crutcher Lewis, our partner on the University of Washington's Hans Rosling Center for Population Health. Hear from Miller Hull Partner, Ruth Baleiko, FAIA, LEED AP, and the project team as they discuss the collaborative approach behind the project—where trust and integration led to a high-performance facility tackling critical global health challenges.
What does progressive design-build delivery look like up close? On the University of Washington’s Hans Rosling Center for Population Health project, Lewis worked side by side with The Miller Hull Partnership, LLP, KPFF Consulting Engineers, and other key partners to foster a culture of trust, collaboration and seamless integration. The team analyzed three potential sites before designing, programming, permitting, and building the 300,000-square-foot, high-performance facility—all in three years. Seventy-five percent of the unused contingency funds were released back into the budget and $4.5 million was saved throughout the project. The end result: maximum value for the owner and a marquee building that houses multidisciplinary research on critical issues like poverty, equity, healthcare access, climate change and government policy. Congratulations to Summer Spencer, recipient of the 2025 Bob Hull Research Grant! Research has always been integral to our practice, driving design breakthroughs and advancing our approach to the built environment. The Bob Hull Research Grant was established to support rigorous, independent research that extends beyond project constraints and challenges conventional thinking. Awarded annually, the grant provides funding and dedicated time for one project that aligns with the recipient's interests and our mission as a firm. “Through the Bob Hull Research Grant, I aim to explore the roles that regionalist attitudes and cultural biases have towards adaptive reuse within the greater urban architectural landscape, and how those beliefs intersect with the pragmatics of fiscal economics, geographical constraints, and global trends towards sustainable development.” - Summer Spencer, AIA We look forward to following Summer’s research and sharing insights as the project unfolds.

Matt’s Place was recently featured in Think Wood, highlighting how we’re working with Matt's Place Foundation to redefine accessible housing with mass timber. Matt’s Place 2.0, our modular home in Spokane, WA, supports ALS patients and their families with barrier-free universal design and biophilic, high-quality materials. Now, we’re applying these principles to Matt’s Place 3.0, a three-story, nine-unit prototype for modular, accessible multifamily housing. “‘Ordinarily, people with this diagnosis get a really compromised solution. But what if it wasn’t?’ says Brian Court, partner at Miller Hull, who oversaw both projects’ design. ‘What if we could still give high design to people that ordinarily wouldn’t have access to great design? And what if we could make it cost effective and replicable?’” Click the link to read the full story: https://bit.ly/4jWWWBV.
