关于我们
The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment is dedicated to inspiring research, innovation and leadership that ensures clean, abundant water for the environment and all humanity. Our headquarters are located on the site of an environmentally, culturally, and archaeologically significant resource, Spring Lake, which serves as a living laboratory, a community center, and an irreplaceable educational resource. The Meadows Center is managed by Texas State University and is a showcase for research, education, stewardship and environmental leadership projects. We bring together departments and research centers to both engage in scholarly inquiry and provide practical, science-based solutions to complex water-related challenges across Texas and around the world.

San Marcos has tightened water restrictions to Stage 3 as drought conditions worsen. “The footprint of the river has shrunk due to the low flows. We’ve lost habitat for Texas Wild Rice, where the rice used to grow. The other aspect is that as the river gets shallower, recreational activities become harsher on the environment,” said #MC4Water ED Dr. Robert Mace. Calling for students interested in a Masters in Population and Conservation Biology at Texas State University (https://lnkd.in/gvs8Hwh4)! This grad research position involves a collaborative project with Texas State's Department of Biology, the Meadows Center, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and Hill Country landowners. Research Focus: Utilize next-gen DNA sequencing to study the genetics of Heterelmis beetles from Texas Hill Country springs. Analyze data on around 400 beetles to assess population size, isolation, and effects of environmental pressures (like drought or flow reduction). The study also provides insight into habitat connectivity, aiding conservation efforts for beetles and coexisting endemic species. See?https://lnkd.in/gpxTXikk?for details about research interests. ?? Funding: Covers research costs, summer pay (two summers), plus the possibility of a research or teaching assistantship. ???? Who Should Apply? Ideal candidates have a background in population genetics and computational biology. ?? Application: Send a statement of interest, CV, and relevant documents to Chris Nice at [email protected]. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis! Know someone who’d be a great fit? Please share! ????
