报纸出版业

Maine's oldest student-run newspaper since 1875.

关于我们

Established in 1875, The Maine Campus is one of the oldest newspapers in Maine. As the official student-run newspaper of the University of Maine, we have been a trusted source of information and a platform for student voices for nearly 150 years. Funded by the student communications fee and advertising sales, we ensure that our publication is directly supported by the community it serves. Every aspect of our operations, from content creation to management, is led by a team of full student staff. As an entirely student-run publication with editorial independence from the university, we remain distinct among student newspapers nationwide as we do not contract non-student employees.

Being a fourth-year student at the University of Maine, I have witnessed a lot of change during my time here. I remember when parking tickets were $30. Now, if you are a student and you park in the wrong lot, you have a $50 charge added directly to your student account. This is an outrageous amount of money for an action that did not cost the University any money. • On President’s Day around noon, over 200 sign-adorned people gathered in front of the Federal Building in Bangor as part of the nationwide No Kings National Day of Protest, organized locally by Indivisible Bangor, a grassroots volunteer-based group focused on ensuring equal protection and access under the law. Protesters voiced their concerns about President Trump’s executive orders, the actions of Elon Musk and the inaction of Maine Sen. Susan Collins. The Maine Campus spoke with Indivisible Bangor organizer Melissa Berky to understand the motivations behind protests that occurred across the state in Bangor, Augusta, Bucksport and Ellsworth. • ?It is frustrating how this book has become such a “feminist masterpiece”. It is wrapped in a bow of women’s empowerment but the only message it actually pushes is Christian values for women. ??: Obie Casperson ??: Marie Violette Read the article below ??? https://lnkd.in/eBve-XrJ Photo description: A picture of Lousia May Alcott's novel "Little Women" on a library shelf.

  • Oftentimes, it appears legislators create problems so that they do not have to solve the real issues we face everyday. UMaine has a billion dollars in deferred maintenance,?and young people in Maine cannot economically compete with people moving here from wealthier states. However, this bill does not actually improve students’ lives. This bill (LD233) does not make any of the universities in Maine better to attend. This is a bill that is built out of ignorance, not the desire to improve students’ lives.? ??: Meredyth Waters ??: Meredyth Waters Read the article below ??? https://lnkd.in/gjuEPAjR

  • In this luncheon talk, one controversy in women’s care carried clear outrage amongst the group. Stories of anti-abortion centers around Maine should be a horror story, not day-to-day shared experiences. Regardless of views of abortion, trickery and shame rituals have no place in any health related office ??: Obie Casperson ??: Owen Bulmer Photo description:?TGRR and Mabel Wadsworth members leading conversation for students Read the article below ??? https://lnkd.in/epFnEf-R

  • University of Maine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy issued an electronic letter on Jan. 29 to all students and faculty, addressing the potential impact of new federal directives on immigration enforcement policies and resulting actions from agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). These changes come during increased reports of ICE sightings across the state and have prompted responses from some Maine school districts and organizations such as the Maine Immigrants’ Rights Coalition and Project Relief. ??: Elora Griswold ??: Elora Griswold Photo description:?The UMaine Police Department’s (UMPD) Chief William Flagg will serve as the liaison for outside law enforcement and as a point of contact for help accessing available resources. • Now that “syllabus week” is over, I am certain many University of Maine students heard about the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their course. Whether in favor, opposition or neutral, professors across campus have taken the time to address AI’s place in the classroom. I have heard all about academic integrity, but nothing about climate integrity. It’s time as a community that professors address the environmental impact of generative AI in the classroom. ??: Meredyth Waters ??: Illustration by Tilia Baratta Photo caption:?A square labeled "AI" with a smokestack, representing the environmental impact of AI.
