I went to a networking event put on by The Loop ATX a few weeks back and left that room ready to hit the ground running. The guest speaker, Michael Hosford, self-made founder and CEO of Synergy Insurance and Investments, had us laughing with him as he told his story frankly from start to finish; but my biggest takeaway was this... Ask for help. Over, and over, and over again. Ask through the no's. Take notes when you get a yes. Actually implement what you learn. Then, help someone else. Whatever title you want to hold, identify three high performers in your area and ask them to coffee. You'll find that, like Michael, the vast majority will make the time and are eager to share what they've learned along the way. I have asked two people thus far and it has resulted in two mentors (separate focuses), a meaningful expansion of my network, a job opportunity, and new friendships. I am so eager to fully immerse myself in the networking and community building that this city has to offer, as I know I have just scratched the surface. Thank you to Teigan Brown, co-founder of The Loop ATX, for organizing this and I can't wait for the next one!
