Today marks six years since I lost my precious Liv to suicide. Our community was in disbelief since few were aware of her mental health struggles and saw her as a vibrant, happy, beautiful, incorrigible, uproariously funny, talented, loved, and compassionate young woman (which she indeed was!). They could not comprehend why she would want to end her life. This date continues to haunt me as I grapple with profound feelings of grief and loss, leaving a deep void in my heart.
Everyone has battles, and we might never see them, but if you sense someone is having a tough time, trust that they likely are. Don’t hesitate to reach out; listening with compassion and validation can be a lifeline for someone in a mental health crisis.
My mission is to prevent other families or communities from enduring this kind of loss. That is why my daughter Tess and I co-founded The Liv Project. If you want to learn more about preventing youth suicide, I encourage you to explore our film, resources, programming, and inspiring stories. If you are struggling or know someone who is, remember you are never alone.
Warmly,
Honey Beuf
