Tammy shares a story of a curriculum night in September when no families show up to her classroom. It’s a powerful opening to Chapter 7: Quick and Frequent Moves to Connect with Families. She then offers a whole chapter of ways she adjusted her communication to connect with families. We need these moves. In a world where families are busy and often uncomfortable interacting with schools, we need to know how to open communication and empower students to talk about their learning with their loved ones. You might buy the book for the practical guide for how to meet the urgent needs of your readers, but Chapter 7 is the gem you don’t even know you need. I’m so grateful Tammy included this chapter and put this book into the world. We’ll all be better educators because of it.
