More than 300,000 Rhode Islanders — 1 out of every 3 of us — rely on this vital health coverage program. Medicaid covers low-income adults, children, seniors, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, children in foster care & former foster youth up to age 26. If anything is worth fighting for, it's Medicaid!

  • New Report Release: Latino Pathways to Success Latino students are a growing force in Rhode Island’s higher education, yet they face systemic barriers. The Latino Policy Institute and Rhode Island College have collaborated on a report analyzing these challenges and outlining key recommendations to improve Latino student success. Key findings: - Latino undergraduate enrollment at Rhode Island College grew from 21.1% in 2018 to 26.1% in 2022. - Despite this growth, Latino students continue to experience lower retention and graduation rates. -Expanding financial aid, student support services, and culturally responsive policies is critical to ensuring educational equity.     What a tremendous honor to have been selected as the chair of the Pawtucket School Committee, the first person of color to hold that honor. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, provided guidance, and supported me. I can't say it enough. A huge thank you to all School Committee members who voted for me, the people of Pawtucket, my family, all of the staff of Pawtucket Schools, and the parents who entrust us and send their children to our schools. I look forward to being held accountable and working to make the educational outcomes of Pawtucket the best that they can be. I love you Pawtucket, thank you!

    Today I was given my first City of Providence Citation for the work I’ve done on the Juvenile Hearing Board for the last three years. Wednesday night was my last night of cases, as my commitment comes to a close, and as I reflected on the three years of meeting youth, learning their stories, and creating accountability measures that ACTUALLY repairs harm and empowers youth, I am reminded that we hold so much more impact than we think. I’ll miss the connection, hope to be on another JHB one day when my time is better equipped for it. (ignore the typo of my name, hehe)

    In Latino/x/e communities, stigma and barriers to access are significant obstacles to mental health??. Growing up with the idea that “mental health is for crazy people” or that problems are solved at home creates shame and makes it difficult for many to seek help. Additionally, limited access to culturally competent services worsens the situation. However, by breaking down these stigmas and advocating for more accessible and culturally sensitive care, we can ensure that our communities receive the support they truly need????. En las comunidades Latina/x/es, el estigma y las barreras al acceso son obstáculos significativos para la salud mental??. Crecer con la idea de que “la salud mental es para los locos” o que los problemas se resuelven en casa, crea vergüenza y dificulta que muchos busquen ayuda. Además, el acceso limitado a servicios culturalmente competentes agrava la situación. Sin embargo, al derribar estos estigmas y luchar por una atención más accesible y culturalmente sensible, podemos asegurar que nuestras comunidades reciban el apoyo que realmente necesitan????
