DEI professionals have nearly twice the attrition rate compared to non-DEI roles since 2020, largely due to companies reducing or completely moving away from their DEI efforts, a recent study by RevelioLabs found. But the benefits of investing in DEI are clear. McKinsey's 2024 research shows that companies with diverse executive teams (both gender and ethnicity) are on average 9% more likely to outperform their competitors. Invest in the Latino Leadership Institute (LLI) to bridge the gap left by corporate retreat and ensure continued support for Latino professionals. Creating Equity in Entrepreneurship | Building bridges across the diaspora | Architecting growth strategies
It’s time to build intergenerational wealth in the Latino community. For too long, we've been told that the path to wealth is a straight line up the income ladder. While that might be true for some, it's not the whole picture. Let me show you what I’m talking about (below). The left side represents the 95% of Americans who rely on income to pay the bills and, in some cases, leads to affluence - all to provide a stable life for their kids. It's important, but it's not the key to generational wealth. The right side is where the real magic happens. It's where the top 5% have built their empires. They're not just earning more; they're creating astounding intergenerational wealth. And guess what? Almost all of them are - or were - entrepreneurs. They’ve built economic engines that grow, expand, and generate wealth that lasts well beyond their own lifetimes. That's why at the Latino Leadership Institute we're increasing the number of Latino businesses that scale beyond the $1 million mark. Because at the $1 million mark… Most businesses have the characteristics of a company that can scale and build wealth at multiple levels through . . . The increase in company valuation multiples; Ownership value as represented on the capitalization table (i.e., the breakdown of who owns what percentage); The exit waterfall (i.e., how value is distributed among shareholders in the event of an exit); and Workforce expansion. So, it's time to create real economic prosperity within the Latino community. And at the LLI, we believe that true progress is built through these levers, circulating wealth within our own community and turning the dollar over multiple times. Want to get involved? Drop me a comment or send me a message. Let’s connect. The wealth gap is widening, but Latino leaders and entrepreneurs are carving a pathway forward. Recent data shows the stark disparity in wealth between white families and families of color. The average white household boasts over $1 million in wealth, while Black and Latino families barely exceed $200,000. To effectively close the wealth gap, it's crucial to focus on increasing incomes and securing higher-paying jobs and positions. While white households generally have more wealth than Latino households, a significant portion of the total wealth gap, in terms of dollars, is concentrated among the highest-income earners. At these top levels, there is a substantial disparity, with fewer Latinos represented. But LLI Latino leaders and entrepreneurs are making a difference. Our alumni at the Latino Leadership Institute are breaking down barriers, achieving career advancements, and building wealth. Over 96% have received promotions, leading to an additional $8 million in compensation and benefits. Our LEAP entrepreneurs are also driving economic growth, collectively earning over $9 million. Let's celebrate Hispanic Heritage by investing in the Latino community. Your support can help us close the wealth and leadership gaps and create a more equitable future for all. This powerful text message from an incredible Latina mentor to Joelle Martinez, LLI President & CEO, transformed how she viewed herself as she stepped into the boardroom of Coca-Cola. We all need access to mentors and subject matter experts who can support our journeys as leaders because they have lived our journey. Yet, less than 40% of Latinos say they don't have a mentor. The LLI connects Latino leaders with the social capital to advance our careers and build our businesses. Tune in to Real Talk, a collaboration of Colorado Public Radio and Denver7 (KMGH-TV), to hear Joelle share the power of mentorship and building connections to change outcomes: https://bit.ly/4e4M0Ph #LatinosLead #LatinasLead #MentorshipMatters #LeadershipDevelopment #CareerGrowth #Mentorship #HispanicHeritageMonth #HispanicHeritageMonth2024 #LatinHeritageMonth

Leadership is our heritage and our legacy. As we celebrate our community's contributions this month and throughout the year, we must also call attention to the challenges we are facing. The Supreme Court's affirmative action ruling last year has significantly impacted funding and investment in organizations like ours, the Latino Leadership Institute. “Today, this Court stands in the way and rolls back decades of precedent and momentous progress,” wrote Justice Sonia Sotomayor in her dissent. Indeed it has, and not just in higher education. Throughout the U.S., companies have scaled back their commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). Many individuals in our network have felt the effects directly, such as losing their jobs as DEIB practitioners, experiencing budget cuts as ERG leaders, or leading organizations that may face legal challenges due to their commitment to DEIB. Others have found themselves as the lone advocates in rooms where decisions are made to completely halt this type of funding. Yet, as commitment and investment wane, the opportunity gaps for Latinos continue to grow. Without immediate action, the aftermath of last year's Supreme Court ruling will persist in undoing the progress Latinos have achieved for our future, economy, businesses, and the next generation of leaders. So this month, we ask you to use your voice and platform to celebrate our heritage while advocating for the future of our community. Let’s lead together. #LatinosLead

I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am to have joined this FamiLLIa. The Latino Leadership Institute celebrated 10 years of helping people like me on our professional journeys. It was an immense honor to speak alongside absolute Latina legends Alejandra "Ale" Spray and Joelle Martinez. It meant so much to have Denver7 (KMGH-TV) supporting me at the event and with the Ignite training I completed last year. I also love that I got to share the night with my incredible husband. While Mike drove us to the celebration, I was nervous. So I put on some Celia Cruz to get into the right mood. Guess what gift LLI gave away? Celia Cruz coins! I will treasure mine forever.

Let's take a moment to acknowledge our incredible achievements. Celebrate our brilliance. Celebrate our resilience. Because despite facing significant challenges, we've made remarkable strides. Latino businesses are booming. We're growing faster than any other type of business, including white-owned ones. In fact, we're outperforming all businesses in terms of revenue, number of businesses, employees, and payroll. And over 25% of new entrepreneurs are Latino. We're securing more funding than ever before, with SBA loans reaching a record-breaking $3 billion. What's motivating this success? Becoming our own bosses. Having more control over our lives with the ability to balance work and family. And creating the foundation for intergenerational wealth. Our determination and perseverance will only strengthen this momentum. So today, I say: WEEEEEEPAAAAAA! The future of entrepreneurship is Latino. Comment below with what motivates you as an entrepreneur! Let's continue to inspire and uplift each other.
