At The Juice, we’re dedicated to empowering educators with the tools to facilitate impactful discussions, sparking curiosity and communication in every subject. The Juice’s platform provides a structured yet flexible way to incorporate current events into daily lessons, helping students connect what they learn with the world around them and discuss those thoughts with their peers. So, how can teachers use The Juice to drive meaningful classroom discussions? It starts with carefully curated, engaging content. Every article from The Juice includes up-to-date stories paired with relevant background information, breaking down complex topics into accessible language without sacrificing depth. This context is key for setting up productive conversations. Before jumping into a discussion, students can ground themselves in background knowledge. This gives them the confidence to participate actively and build well-informed viewpoints. Each article also comes with a single reflection question that helps students go beyond surface-level observations and start thinking critically. These questions are crafted to encourage - Analysis - Comparison - Debate - Perspective Analysis For teachers, this means that even a quick discussion can turn into a valuable critical thinking exercise without needing hours of preparation. Using The Juice, teachers can tailor discussions to fit any schedule or learning objective. 10 Minute Lesson Begin with a quick overview of the day’s top story, followed by the embedded reflection prompt. Give students time to put their thoughts into words and open the class up for discussion. 30 Minute Lesson For a deeper dive, assign an article as homework and use it as the foundation for a full-class discussion the next day. Challenge students to take on the viewpoints of the subjects of the article. The impact of these discussions goes beyond the classroom. Students who regularly engage with current events and learn to discuss them respectfully are better prepared for the complexities of the world. They learn to consider different viewpoints and appreciate the shades of gray in every issue by building: - Knowledge - Resilience - Empathy Read our full blog to see how The Juice can transform classroom discussions.
